After seeing In The Face of Evil last night, I spent most of today thinking about the grand battle in which we are now engaged. Now as many of our readers will know, I am in no way a neo-conservative. In fact, I don’t even believe in the term. That being said, the battle between Western society and islamic extremism in which we are now engaged is one that for conservations sake must be fought, and fought hard.

I am an Edmund Burke conservative, and so thusly I turned to his wisdom on this sort of an issue and I found this intriguing quote:

“I thought ten thousand swords must have leaped from their scabbards to avenge even a look that threatened her with insult. But the age of chivalry is gone. That of sophists, economists and calculators has succeeded; and the glory of Europe is gone forever.”

We stand on the verge of something that would have seemed laughable only a few short years ago, destruction of the Judeo-Christian west, to be replaced with either radical, militant Islam or souless, mind-numbing secularism. From the right, we face those who would reshape the world in their image of radical Islam, where to refuse to bow to Allah would be akin to suicide. On the left, we face those who would ignore the rich tapestry of Christian and Greco-Roman thought which has crafted the Western expierence. President Bush, for all his faults domestically, has pursued a strong defense of this country and the West. But let us not forget the precious product we all have recieved in the Western expierence, because if we do not act soon and decisively it will be stolen away forever.

Our schools, our media, and all the institutions once designed to uphold the Western tradition have all in their blind ambition turned their backs on the concept of natural law, negative law, responsibility, and religion that created them all. In a way, the Caesar of Westendom should be turning to them all saying “Et tu Brute?”

Indeed now is the time to stand up men of the West for this day we fight!
