Judicial Activism Gets Worse

Monday, February 28th, 2005

In what has to be one of the most horrendous cases of judicial activism, as a Roman Catholic pharmacist is going to be forced to provide birth control to anyone who asks. Now I am not a subscriber to the anti-birth control view, but the thought that a judge can invent a right to birth control and then send a pharmacist to “ethics” classes about how he MUST give out the medicine is just disgusting. It is not a life sustaining medicine it is an elective option that the person simply could have gone to another pharmacy to fill. People of faith, the state is coming to “enlighten” you out of your medieval ways.

Memo To Open Borders Folks

Monday, February 28th, 2005

This fantastic article in the Times (UK), I think points out the serious ramifications of multi-culturalists BS. A warning to the open borders folks:

The figures were pro rata among the highest in the EU. Illegals came, too, mainly after 1990, with estimates running from 100,000 to 200,000. The Dutch supplied funding for mosques, religious schools, language courses and housing. They passed special legislation so Moroccans could have dual nationality, as Moroccan nationality is inalienable under Moroccan law. Political correctness, of the sort that produced Harry Enfield’s famously relaxed Amsterdam policemen, reigned. Issues felt at street level — immigration, crime, culture, national identity — were seldom discussed by the political elite.

Replace Morrocan with Mexican and one gets a rather… eerie picture.

Assault Weapons Ban II

Sunday, February 27th, 2005

Our favorite Senator from California, Dianne Feinstein will be introducing a bill to Congress this session which will prevent the sale and use of 19 different guns and any magazines of more than 10 rounds. This bill is being introduced to reinstate the old assault-weapon ban signed under the Clinton Administration which expired this year.

The Senator believes that no law abiding citizen needs to have such a powerful weapon. Only trained law-enforcement and military personnel should be permitted to carry such dangerous weapons. Though, conceivably her efforts may actually be out of concern for the safety of law enforcement and the general public, she fails to realize that gun laws have never worked. In fact, in almost every case stricter gun laws actually lead to increased gun violence. Gun bans successfully disarm good citizens and have practically no effect on the black market sale and illicit use of firearms. In the end, such restrictions end up increasing violent crime rates.

The most disturbing part of this is that our conservative (?) President said during the ‘04 Campaign that he would sign a bill reinstating the ban, if Congress approved it. We need to keep this bill from passing in Congress, so it is up to us to contact our Congressmen to voice our opposition to this bill.

Another Bill to be watching.

Supreme Lunacy

Sunday, February 27th, 2005

For those of you still not convinced the Supreme Court and liberal interpretation of the constitution isn’t really a threat to every day type of activities check out this article in the LA Daily News about the recent court ruling regarding temporary racial segregation in jails.

Apparently it is ok to discriminate to deny someone an education, but it is not ok to save their life. Absolutely unbelievable.

SaveTheGOP Exclusive: Toomey Says Darkhorse 2008 is Sanford

Saturday, February 26th, 2005

Rep. Toomey, at the 2nd Annuyal Gettysburg Conservative Conference, wowed the crowd with his usual solid conservative view points and argumentation, but the key moment of the day came when Toomey, now head of the Club for Growth, stated that Gov. Mark Sanford was his darkhorse possibility for President in 2008. His other mentions of likely GOP candidates were Giulani, Pataki, McCain, and Santorum. On the Democratic side he said that the possible nominees were: Hillary, Hillary, and oh yeah… Hillary.

Toomey also extoled the importance of the Social Security personal accounts fight saying it was the most important fight of his lifetime that could change the tide in the growth of government. Let’s hope he’s right.

Rep. Toomey speaks to the crowd

Blogwriters Mark Harris and Stephanie Lococo get their picture taken with Rep. Toomey.

Can anyone say Toomey for Senate 2010?!?

SaveTheGOP Earning a Name

Friday, February 25th, 2005

Well SaveTheGOP is begining to earn a bit of a name for itself, as I was checking our refferers (sites that link to us) I discovered a certain www.bluelight.nu linked to us in regards to Canada and missile defense… well… apparently this is a site dedicated to “responsible” drug use. (ie there was an ad for an ecstasy tester so you know you have the “real deal”) .

The New Bluelight is an international message board that educates the public about responsible drug use (with a focus on MDMA) by promoting free discussion.

MDMA=ecstasy apparently

The person who linked to us just quoted part of the blog post with a frowny face next to it, no real commentary. Well my point was, we are atleast getting read by some people.

Euroschmucks

Friday, February 25th, 2005

Apparently Bush’s little trip hasn’t had much popular appeal. I’m willing to bet Bush did some good work behind the scenes with a smirk and a little Bush chuckle. Anywho, I really just posted this article so I could put up this simpson’s quote:

Mr. Burns: Oooh, the Germans are mad at me… I’m so scared! Oooooh, the Germans… Uh oh… (chorus of Germanic-sounding voices saying ‘Stop it, Burns’) The Germans are coming after me… Oh, don’t let the Germans come after me… Oh, the Germans are coming after me… No, they’re so big and strong… Protect me from the Germans! The Germans!”

Victor Davis Hanson is the man.

Friday, February 25th, 2005

Kickin’ ass in the morning. I don’t think he ever bothers taking names.

It is wise to cite and publicize our errors — and there have been many in this war. Humility and circumspection are military assets as well. And we should not deprecate the danger of our enemies, who are cruel and ingenious. Moreover, we should never confuse the sharp dissent of the well-meaning critic with disloyalty to the cause.

But nor should we fall into pessimism, when in less than four years we have destroyed the two worst regimes in the Middle East, scattered al Qaeda, avoided another promised 9/11 at home, and sent shock waves of democracy throughout the Arab world — so far at an aggregate cost of less than what was incurred on the first day of this unprovoked war. Car bombs are bad news, but in the shadows is the real story: The terrorists are losing, and radical reform, the likes of which millions have never seen, is right on the horizon. So this American gloominess is not new. Yet, if the past is any guide, our present lack of optimism in this struggle presages its ultimate success.

A final prediction: By the end of this year, formerly critical liberal pundits, backsliding conservative columnists, once-fiery politicians, Arab “moderates,” ex-statesmen and generals emeriti, smug stand-up comedians, recently strident Euros — perhaps even Hillary herself — will quietly come to a consensus that what we are witnessing from Afghanistan and the West Bank to Iraq and beyond, with its growing tremors in Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, and the Gulf, is a moral awakening, a radical break with an ugly past that threatens a corrupt, entrenched, and autocratic elite and is just the sort of thing that they were sort of for, sort of all along — sort of…

Our Brave Allies Strike Again

Friday, February 25th, 2005

The Canadians have officially ended two years of debate and will not be joining us in protecting North America from a missile attack. I suppose we shouldn’t be too surprised at this decision, but I had hoped that we could defray the costs of this program, even if it was only be a few hundred million, by enlisting the help of our fearful neighbors. Great quote that “says it all”:

Foreign Affairs Minister Pierre Pettigrew, however, indicated the ultimate decision had always been in U.S. hands.

“Would it have been otherwise?” he replied when asked whether Canada’s refusal to join means the country now officially relies on the United States for protection.

These spoiled little children want the dessert without eating their dinner first. I wish the Canadians shared a contiguous border with a nation like Sudan instead of us, then we could watch them squirm, or at least attempt to behave like men.

The Fam.

Friday, February 25th, 2005

There has been a lot of talk recently on the coming divorce between Libertarians and Conservatives., as Instapundit noted here. As a conservative, well very conservative, blog I think this is something worth weighing in on.

First, being at CPAC I would not say Libertarians were poorly recieved. The ACLU, Libertarian Party, and others libertarian groups were there, as well as “conservatives for peace.” The problem really is on your definition of liberatrian. The problem is that libertarians particularly on college campuses, which is what many on the right judge libertarianism, is viewed as libertine, which is not just that all should be legal, but it should be socially approved. Drugs, prostitution, and other “vices” are the key issues to these folk, and the fact is that it is a highly immature philosophy. As these libertines grow up they quickly become either social conservatives also or apolitical for the most part. True libertarians, instead, are those who view government as damaging in all that it does.

What does this mean? Well for example, a more conservative libertarian will admit that prostitution is a moral evil, but that the situation is actual made worse by government intervention. The split between libertarians and conservatives is well overstated, because in the end both know they come to the dance only through the centre-right alliance. Libertarians would be foolish to think they could make common cause with liberals, because in the end even on “social liberalism” Liberals are about big government. It isn’t just about abortions, its about government funded abortions, not just about gay marriage, but federal bennefits, not just about soddomy laws as it is about the usurpation of federalism. In the end, libertarians have little recourse, and for the most part have rightly judged the centre-right coalition as their best hope.

Sen. Specter Urges Caution on Bush Judicial Showdown

Thursday, February 24th, 2005

Our good friend Sen. Specter is finding himself in the hot seat as the battle over the Judicial nominees heats up in the Senate Judiciary Committee. It is no secret where Sen. Specter stands on the abortion issue and or record of standing up to the left, but conservatives and savethegop.com will be putting the pressure on every step of the way. Can you imagine what would happen if Sen. Tom Coburn was the Committee chairman? Problem solved.

Random Thoughts From Right

Thursday, February 24th, 2005

Thomas Sowell from the Hoover Institution had an outstanding column in this weeks Baltimore Sun exlaining what Conservatives truly stand for. Sowell contrasts the irrational arguments of the left with good old logical conservative common sense.

By Thomas Sowell
RANDOM THOUGHTS on the passing scene:

How many other species’ members kill each other to the same extent as human beings?

How can you be an “insurgent” in someone else’s country? Yet despite the fact that the wave of terrorism in Iraq is led by an outside terrorist who is murdering Iraqis, our media still call his terror campaign an “insurgency.”

It is amazing how many people who phone ask to know who you are instead of telling you who they are.

Raising Social Security taxes today will not leave a dime more to pay pensions to future retirees. Right now there is more money coming into the system than is going out - and the difference gets spent on other things. Higher taxes now would mean a bigger excess to be spent on other things, leaving nothing more for the future.

Time and again, over the centuries, price controls have produced three things: shortages, quality deterioration and black markets. Why would anyone want any of those things with pharmaceutical drugs?

Who was right? Anti-War supporters “simple minded”?

Thursday, February 24th, 2005

According to a Times (UK) article, one of the founders of Labour Against The War has just resigned from the group over the changing (read: improving) situation in Iraq. Usually liberals hate to admit they were wrong, but this guy seems more than honest about it.

Mr Barnes accused the anti-war movement of offering a “one-sided” view of life in Iraq, endlessly repeating the 100,000 casualty estimate produced in an analysis of deaths caused by the conflict, published in the academic journal The Lancet.

“That analysis said it could be anything between 2,000 and 198,000,” he said. “Some things are just over-the-top and simple-minded.”

That’s some pretty harsh criticism, lets hope that on this side of the pond some of our anti-war whackos are listening, but I doubt it.

The face of Generation 9/11

If this article doesn’t inspire your hope in our generation, nothing will. Todd Bowers, a junior at George Washington University is on his second tour in Fallujah. He is an amazing and humble human being. Pray that our protectors be protected.Junior Todd Bowers displays the gun that blocked a bullet from directly hitting him. A hole can be seen in the gun where the bullet entered.

Hoplin to Run, Gourley to Drop Out?

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2005

Rumors are flying fast and furious in the district concerning the CRNC election, so much so that SaveTheGOP is starting a new category to put stories about the race in. Well the newest rumor on the block is that Paul Gourley, establishment candidate, is to drop out with Eric Hoplin replacing him.

I have to believe this is just a rumor. Hoplin would have a heck of a time getting re-elected, as he caries similar baggage as Gourley, plus if he loses it would leave a negative splotch on his record, as Mr. Hoplin clearly has higher ambitions. Look for more developments on this front as the wheels fall totally off the Gourley train.

European Whores

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2005

President Bush’s new tactic of charming the Europeans into caring about themselves, Western Civilization, and only as an afterthought their “traditional ally” the United States isn’t working as reported by Defense News. As they have proven again and again since the end of the Cold War the French and their Sad Clown Posse are only really concerned with making money, being corrupt, working 35 hours a week (if they are French government employees), and automatically opposing anything the United States supports.
