-Jonah Goldberg at AU tonight. This and many other Goldbergisms made the Metro trip worth my while. Jonah’s performance was pretty standard for him: insightful, high-larious, and dare I say charming. He was just as affable in real life as he appears online. I, like a giddy school girl, was too scared to ask a question during Q&A. But after the speech, a pack of ravenous conservatives encircled Jonah and made him dance for quarters. In the melee, I snatched a lock of his hair which has found a special place at my National Review shrine. Ahh, live Corner. Does it get any better?

Dr. Howard Dean appears to have suddenly vaulted to the forefront of the people vying for the right to captain the Titanic on her maiden voyage, or as some people are calling it the DNC Chairmanship. Many people within the GOP are leery of Dean, he was a “moderate” in Vermont they point out. To that I say, nonsense. Being a moderate in Vermont is like saying, “I am a Marxist, not a Stalinist. If only Russia had adopted true Communism then everything would have been just fine.” Ummmm, yeah. No, sorry, I’m not buying it. And Dean’s record at the national level doesn’t make me think he will support even a single issue that might appeal to anyone not already reading Mother Goose, besides of course the right to fly a Confederate flag out the back of your pickup. I am waiting for President Bush to take a hard line against European nonsense. When I voted for Bush I wanted him to confront issues like this. Basically Rumsfeld is considering not attending a security conference in Germany because of the risk of arrest for war crimes. If the Germans arrest our Sec. of Defence then I am all for teaching them the lesson they failed to learn in 1918 and 1945.
