Monday, February 14th, 2005

Now, I keep saying that this CRNC thing could not possibly get worse, but take a gander at the fundraising letter they sent out (click the more button below) and I think you will change your mind. Hat tip CRNCTruthCaucus

Shameless self-promotion

Monday, February 14th, 2005

No, I’m not talking about Hillary Clinton. I’m talking about myself. Here’s an article about the pro-life activites here at GW. Hat tip to Sir Gary Livacari, who is the only conservative insurgent on the Hatchet’s staff.

Iraqi Electoral System cont’d

Monday, February 14th, 2005

I previously bemoaned the horror of the proportional representation system used to determine Iraq’s parliament and their .36% threshold to gain a candidate. One sign of good news is that the 2/3 majority necessary will now require a Shiite-Kurd coalition, which is better than pure Shiite domination. Too bad they won’t combine with Allawi’s pro-American 15%. To read more, click here.

FEC To Restrict Internet Political Speech…

As much as I hate Bush’s perscription drug bill, I think a case can be made that his signing of McCain-Feingold is the greater threat to our liberties and well being. Reforming the insanity really has to be done soon, but sadly few in Congress have the cajones to do it.

Let The Fun Begin…

“You are among the most persecuted people in the history of mankind,” Dean tells his first audience, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Caucus. This leads off a rapid-fire series of applause lines from Dean, who during his presidential campaign once declared, “If Bill Clinton can be the first ‘black president,’ I can be our first ‘gay president.’ ” He doesn’t go this far yesterday, but assures everyone that when he’s elected, “it will not be my chairmanship, it will be our chairmanship.”

I’m sure this is news to the African Americans, Jews, and other ethinic groups in the “big tent” of the Democratic Party. If he keeps saying stuff like this then maybe I was wrong about Dean being a threat to the GOP. That quote is going to plaster every piece of mail the GOP puts out in the ‘06 cycle. I mean why does American Jewry stick so hard to the Democratic Party. The Dems don’t like Israel, they obviously have little interest in the plight of Jewry abroad being persecuted, and have lately been heavily courting the American Muslim caucuses that have plancks in them, which are not so friendly to Israel or Judaism.

Who’s Next?

Monday, February 14th, 2005

Let’s go ahead and lay down predictions while there is still time to do so. Which country do we engage militarily next? Iran? North Korea? Or my dark horse candidate, Syria? The president has played this pretty close to the vest, but I don’t think you’ll see any U.N sessions this time to warn them that we are on the way. Congress will be called to an emergency session and then boom. I still maintain that Syria is next, despite the indications that Iran is being mapped out for air strikes or an invasion. In addition the pressure on North Korea is steadily mounting, if you can stomach it, here is the New York Times reporting. The noose is tightening on North Korea and many think that this means there won’t be any conflict, just a slow painful strangulation of the regime, but if you think the North Korean’s are going to respond any differently than the Japanese did in the early 40s to the United States efforts to similarly choke it of resources and vital supplies then you need to take a step back and re-think your ideas. Many elites in the North want the current way of things to continue, there are even reports circulating that Kim’s son though only 23 years old has been named a successor to him, indicating a potential early retirement or a well planned coup that we are only seeing the tip of.

We live in exciting times, all three of these regimes will not get to see the 2008 election coverage, and we get to watch it all happen.

Buchanan vs. Sharansky

Monday, February 14th, 2005

Full Transcript Here. Can’s say that I believe wholeheartedly in either of them.

Sharansky believes in utopia. The problem with some “neoconservatives” is the emphasis of the NEO part, which definitionally (is that a word?) states they were once liberals and still hold a flawed liberal view of human nature being good.

Question: Who here thinks that parliamentary democracy in Saudi Arabia would be better than the current thugs?

I ask this, keeping in mind Buchanan’s historical observations that we tore down the monarchies during WWI and we got Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin. The French revolution had a democracy before Napoleon ravaged Europe.

The main problem with Buchanan’s position, however, is that Click to continue »
