Assault Weapons Ban II

Written by Stephanie Lococo on February 27th, 2005

Our favorite Senator from California, Dianne Feinstein will be introducing a bill to Congress this session which will prevent the sale and use of 19 different guns and any magazines of more than 10 rounds. This bill is being introduced to reinstate the old assault-weapon ban signed under the Clinton Administration which expired this year.

The Senator believes that no law abiding citizen needs to have such a powerful weapon. Only trained law-enforcement and military personnel should be permitted to carry such dangerous weapons. Though, conceivably her efforts may actually be out of concern for the safety of law enforcement and the general public, she fails to realize that gun laws have never worked. In fact, in almost every case stricter gun laws actually lead to increased gun violence. Gun bans successfully disarm good citizens and have practically no effect on the black market sale and illicit use of firearms. In the end, such restrictions end up increasing violent crime rates.

The most disturbing part of this is that our conservative (?) President said during the ‘04 Campaign that he would sign a bill reinstating the ban, if Congress approved it. We need to keep this bill from passing in Congress, so it is up to us to contact our Congressmen to voice our opposition to this bill.
