In Georgia! God Save Us!

Written by Mike on March 3rd, 2005

The smoking fascists are on the march, their latest blitzkrieg is in my home state of Georgia. The Georgia Clean Air Act of 2005 would ban smoking in certain public places. Now I don’t smoke cigarettes, but I do enjoy cigars and a pipe of tobacco now and again and this is just flat out tyranny. The day I can’t smoke in a bar, not because the bar is smoke free, but because the state of Georgia says I can’t will be a sad day. Why the hell would anyone want to emulate New York City?

I am divided on this issue. I hate smoke, and think that for the most part, smokers are ignorant to those around them. Also though, I think this whole smoking ban (coming soon to Philadelphia) should be free market based. I think that businesses will do better for there bottom line be cutting smoking from their business, but they shouold have the opportunity to do so. I dislike and distrust governments who try to regulate things like this.

Statesboro, GA passed such a ban several years ago. The new rule had popular approval… and I for one kind of like going home and not choking for a while! Anyone for local government?!
