DLC On The Deathbed
Written by Mark Harris on March 6th, 2005As this article from The Nation points out the Democratic Leadership Council that had been the leader of the moderate wing of the Democratic party is imploding in on itself, as the left of the party regains control. This is just another one of those articles that scares me to death, because it just proves how insane one entire party in our political system has gone. They honestly believe if they run as far to the left as possible that they will win because people will buy their message.
Hold on folks, because this leftward turn is only going to get worse.

I always caution people about over-reacting to the Ds leftward lurch. Niebuhr cautions us about irony, and this, much like Barry Goldwater’s loss, could prove to be an ironic situation.
When one thinks about, a lot of the superficial stuff is already lined up. The party is in turmoil (as were Republicans after BG’s loss), liberalism is called dead (as was conservatism after BG’s loss), their is a moderate candidate to be run in the next election (Hillary Clinton :: Richard Nixon), but the grassroots are firmly in the grasp of the party’s ideologues.
Just some thoughts on the matter.

“The New York Times and Washington Post mentioned or quoted the DLC 200 times during the electoral season, forty more mentions than the Club for Growth, a leading player in the right-wing movement.”
Money quote.

Let them turn left, they’ve run out of road and the only place they are headed is the ditch.
“Hillary… a moderate…”
She will forever be haunted by her flirtation with socialized medicine.
