Why is polygamy worse than gay marriage?

Written by Jack O'Reilly on March 23rd, 2005

This article claims that “polyamory” is closer than we thought.

As of now, the state will recognize a marriage if it is between: 1 man and 1 woman, over the age of 18, not directly related.

But why do many people who support gay marriage deny polygamy? If something as trivial as *gender* should not be used to regulate who cannot be married, then why would something even more trivial, *number*. You say 2 men can get married. Why not 3? Why not 30?

Furthermore, there have been no civilizations in which children were raised with two mothers or two fathers, while polygamy has been used as a family unit. Doesn’t Osama have 62 children? Granted, our own civilization is struggling mighty hard with trying one mother and no father.

Anyway, by noticing the dearth of posts, it’s pretty clear that most of us here at SaveTheGOP don’t get too excited about the marriage issue. Let me know what y’all think.

This seems to be a result of the lefts inability to recognize the slippery slope theory. They claim that it is unrealistic. However if you use their logic; does not matter who you are, what sex, etc, as long as there is love then you should be able to get married. The implicaitons of this would lead you to believe that as long as you felt love for someone, or something you would be able to get married, no matter what the circumstances. It would be very easy for polygamy to be legally recognized using this same argument…hell, it would easy for someone to marry their donkey using this same logic.

It is also important to keep in mind that legalizing gay “marriage” actually decreases the amount of “marriages” as a whole, and leads to higher divorce rates, and higher rates of children born out of wedlock. When legalized, this seems to devalue the idea of marriage to the traditional marriage supporters, and practicers. This is a current problem facing our country right now, do we really want to just add more fuel to the fire?

I don’t get too excited about the gay marriage issue, as like most conservatives I think, I find the subject slightly distasteful. Let’s have a spirited policy debate about the benefits of anal douching! I think not. I think polygamy is a much more tasteful subject than gay marriage and is certainly much more natural than two men buggering each other.

Hey Matthew I have a question, you stated the following: “legalizing gay “marriage” actually decreases the amount of “marriages” as a whole, and leads to higher divorce rates, and higher rates of children born out of wedlock.”

How does this work exactly? I don’t see the relationship between letting two gay men marry and fewer people getting married as a whole or a straight couple choosing to get a divorce because two women are married. Please explain.

It’s been 6 months and Matthew still can’t explain how gay marriage leads to higher divorce rates and more children born out of wedlock. I’ve tried to make some sense of that idea, but my logic must be failing.

So let me just say that you are all totally wrong. Religion and beliefs aside, homosexuals are citizens who do not have equal rights. Marriage gives homosexuals full and equal protection before the law. If you don’t agree, then you are a bigot.
