US Media: Pope good guy, but stuck in “crazy” orthodoxy

Sunday, April 3rd, 2005

Not sure how much coverage people have been reading but as usual the media couldn’t help but to point out how “crazy” the Pope was to stick to “orthodoxy”. Of all the institutions to lecture America on religion, I have to believe the media to be one of the worst. One of our two resident Protestant bloggers, Andrew, is set to do a post on conservative Christianity and the Pope, but I would like to drop in this piece for people to read: here.

New Mexico In Dispute

Sunday, April 3rd, 2005

SaveTheGOP obtained the following statement earlier today:

Th endorsement of Gourley on Friday is being disputed by at least half of the CR chairs in the state of New Mexico. NM Federation of College Republican Chairman Scott Darnell (personal friend of Eric Hoplin) called a “special meeting” conference call just hours before a vote was cast. The constitutionality of the meeting is being disputed, as well as the fact that there may not have been a quorum on the conference call.

The NM Federation of College Republicans will hold our State Convention on May 13, and the only announced candidate for State Chairman is also a Davidson supporter. Before everyone jumps the gun, let it be known that another vote will be taken by the new officers on May 13, and an official endorsement will be made by Scott Darnell’s successor.

Bob Cornelius
Executive Director
New Mexico Federation of College Republicans

This type of problem is likely to proliferate across multiple states as the question arises as to the incoming or outgoing Chair / Executive Board of state is responsible for the binding or non-binding of delegates. So stay tuned.

CR Vets? Fair and Balanced?

Sunday, April 3rd, 2005

You may have noticed lately that SaveTheGOP has been on to other issues besides the CRNC election, and that is most definitely the case as our mission is bigger than just the CR election, and certainly with Schiavo, the Pope, and other news issues this has gotten pushed to the back burner, but I wanted to write a follow up to a “Veritas” post I had done a week back or so.

In it I talked about how so many had claimed the mantle of truth and objectivity as a way to make their over-spin look normal in some way. Well in that vein, I think CR Vets For Truth, whose authors I think mean well, has wandered so far away from their mission statement must be noted.

They have always claimed to be objective and fair not like CRNCTruthCaucus was their mission, and yet, a thorough look at their blog will reveal that they do not treat Davidson and Gourley the same. They have repeatedly lashed out at Dan Centinello as the right hand of Satan on Earth. They constantly portray Davidson in an incredibly negative light and portray Gourley in a good light. SaveTheGOP doesn’t hide our bias, and CRVetsForTruth needs to do the same. Just look at their last spate of posts:
1. New Mexico Endorses Gourley, Even Though Davidson Said Otherwise (Implication: Davidson a liar)
2. Rhode Island Endorses Gourley (Press release reprinted in its entirely w/o commentary)
3. Massachustes Endorses Davidson, Social Security an Issue (A link to the press release with CRVets spending the majority of the post ripping on the endorsement)
4. Statement on Virginia stuff (unrelated post)
5. Davidson Creates YourCRNC Reps, Similar to Gourley’s (Implication: Davidson is a copycat. No mention of Gourley ripping off his entire tech statement from Davidson)

Just come out and endorse Gourley and let’s cast off this “unbiased” non-sense.
