Delegate Count & Gourley Campaign Moves

Written by Mark Harris on April 12th, 2005

Latest likely count
Gourley - 77
Davidson - 73
Undecided - 21

There obviously will be defectors on all sides, but as best as I can tell from the state by state reports this is the current breakdown. I can not release everything because a lot of this is trusted insider info, but I stand by it as good. Now I know VetsForTruth will post tommorow criticizing me about not “disclosing details”, losing elections, and daring to speak ill of the CRNC, but hey what else is new.

My best info currently is Davidson 77, Gourley 74, and 20 undecided. Looks like we’re pretty close.

There are several divided delegations. I can tell you that those divisions will come to benefit Michael P. Davidson.

    Wisconsin College Republicans Endorse Davidson
Tuesday April 12th, 2005 at 8:54 pm by Brandon Henak

I just got off a statewide conference call for the Wisconsin College Republicans, Michael Davidson has been endorsed for the position of College Republican National Committee Chairman by a large margin with only 3 votes going to Paul Gourley. Best of luck to Michael as he seeks to “elect the Republican leaders of today and recruit, train, mobilize, and empower the leaders of tomorrow“.

Mark, while we (often) seem to respectfully disagree on issues relating to the CRNC election, I was surprised you’d insinuate that we have, or ever would, insult you personally because you ran for a CR leadership position. I respect that immensely and we have NEVER attacked you for having the courage to want to help our grassroots movement. We’re also not opposed to positive and healthy criticism of the CRNC or any campaign, but the manner in which that criticism is delivered is important… we are all of the same Party and at the end of the day we need to be united, and savage and baseless personal attacks such as those leveled by the cowardly and anonymous “Truth” Caucus are not going to help any of us. I do think it’s fair to assume we disagree on our obligation to show where our numbers come from but that is your choice- we stand by our choice to be as transparent as possible when displaying vote totals. I hope we can keep the dialogue civil- your blog is one of the few Davidson blogs with the courage to put a name behind what you say. We all want our organization to be the youthful grassroots leviathan our Party so desperately needs… we can respectfully disagree on who is best fit to serve as Chairman but I am sure you’ll agree we shouldn’t sacrifice our ability to come together in the process.

Brian, you’ve done more to divide the CRNC issues than anyone else with your slanderous blog. You are “CR Vets”? What the hell does that mean? For one, you’re not a veteren of anything so don’t disrespect the meaning of the word. Second, if you’re former CRs, get over it and move on with your lives. This is college politics, very low level. Get over yourself punk.

Brian, I respect you and what you’ve done but there have obviously been some comments made that have insinuated things that I just felt needed to be pointed out. No hard feelings.

Brian - I think that Mark’s reference was to this line in your “Whistling Dixie” post:
” I’ve lost elections, you’ve probably lost elections — and I know certain other bloggers out there have lost elections.”
While ignoring most of it, Anonymous #5 makes a good point: lately the posts on CRVets have been nothing but divisive and, at some points, downright offensive (but thank you for having the state of mind to remove that “floozy” line). To say that there has been a bias is just too ridiculous and obvious an understatement, but your bias has clouded your judgement to the point of hurting your integrity. The post about the Davidson campaign’s evil scheme to expose some form of scandal is exactly what I refer to. We have done nothing - NOTHING - but campaign positively. Paul Gourley’s name has never so much appeared in a press release. His campaign can not say the same (ex- the UT release). To suggest that we would release some form of scandal against him is not only contrary to our entire campaign ethic (my ethic, I might add, can be verified by multiple Gourley campaign staffers), it is a personal attack on the morals of every member of the campaign staff, myself included. I would expect to see a story like this run on the “TruthCaucus” or “TrickyGipper” gossip sites, not your own.
Brian, you and your fellow bloggers have allowed yourselves to be distracted. Now you’re engrossed in the horse race and the petty scandal, and you are losing sight of the fact that this is an incredibly close race.
We need to give the candidates the chance they deserve to talk about their issues. I have never, not once, heard you say WHY you support Paul Gourley. If we want to talk about EXPERIENCE, lets, because Michael has the diverse experience the CRNC needs to be managed in every area.
If we want to talk about VISION, please do, because Michael’s expanding vision for the CRNC is based on the success that he’s had, and we can build on it once he’s chairman.
If we want to talk about CREDIBILITY, that is where all these national leaders come into play, Brian, since you have failed to acknowledge their relevance. The CRNC Chairman needs to be known, recognized, and well-liked. Right now, there is one man who stood up and thanked Paul Gourley, and for good reason, but so many more have recognized the amazing work that Michael has done and look forward to working with him again.
The only tactic that will silence the divisive nature the course of this election has taken is public debate. Why won’t Paul, or anyone from his side, commit to that, or even see the value of it?

Paul has repeatedly said that he will debate Michael live in front of all delegates at the CRNC Convention.
    BTW Rose, who are you?

So Paul has said he’ll debate on election day, after all of the delegate votes are committed? That’s big of him. He’s had the chance to debate all through this campaign and he’s been running scared. He ough to just man up and debate.

Paul has repeatedly ducked opportunities to debate Michael at College Republican Conventions around the country. Why is it that Paul doesn’t want to debate at every opportunity, that’s because he’s a horrible debater, and will get his clock cleaned by Davidson. He’s just hoping that Convention will be a coronation and that nobody will realize he’s a bumbling fool, because they’ve all been bought off.

doesn’t Brian have a response to Mark’s quote of crvetsfortruth?

If Brian wasn’t referring to Mark, what other blogger was he referring to?
