Gourley Implosion?

Wednesday, April 13th, 2005

Big developments in past hour, both are highly unconfirmed. I am working to dig more into this:
1. Mississippi seems to be still in contention
2. New Jersey may be up in the air as rumors are circulating over some dubious activities earlier today by the Gourley campaign

According to the Joe Biles Blog apparently all is not all right in the state of Mississippi, the following letter was sent out stating that the endorsement by the outgoing chair is illegitimate.

Magnolia State CRs Speak Out (looks like my earlier information was correct):

Dear fellow CRs:

Recently, TJ Harvey sent out a memorandum endorsing
Paul Gourley for CRNC Chairman. TJ did this despite
several emails asking him to hold off the endorsement.
The following are a list of grievances from the
Mississippi College Republicans against TJ Harvey.

He has withdrawn himself from contact of CR chapters
around the state.
After disappearing from contact for months, TJ
reappeared this week and endorsed Paul Gourley over
the objection of over 50% of the state officers as
well as several chapter chairman.
He scheduled a convention giving less than two weeks
notice AFTER the date of classes ending at several
member schools
He has lost the support of his home school
He has not called for a state executive committee
meeting since the November election.
He was routinely late or absent from state executive
committee meetings prior to the November election.

The vast majority of officers and chapter chaimen do
not recognize TJ’s leadership as chairman. His
endorsement does not speak for the state of
Mississippi.

Mississippi supports Michael Davidson. A defunct
chairman who no longer has the support of the CRs,
supports Paul. Disregard TJ’s statements. He does
not speak for Mississippi.

Sincerely,

On the New Jersey front rumors are circulating that the Gourley campaign lied to the incoming chair about several different situations confirmation has not been reached but it looks like things are going to get interesting very quickly.

Gourley Declares Victory, Davidson Says “Innaccurate”

Wednesday, April 13th, 2005

Claiming victory today after picking up endorsements out of Mississippi, Georgia, and New Jersey, Gourley and CR Vets For Truth declared the race over. I think it is clearly a blow to the Davidson hopes, but as Davidson campaign manager said “ultimately innaccurate.” There will be more news coming down tonight which I expect will make this circus even more insane, but I would briefly like to comment on the prospects of the Gourley victory if it does happen, which is far from clear.

If this organization can essentially re-elect Paul Gourley after he signed letters defrauding senior citizens then the CRNC is worse off than I could ever imagine. There are several indisuputable facts:
1. Paul Gourley’s name appeared on the letters
2. The letters were highly disingenious and embarassing to CRs across the country.
3. Paul Gourley knew about them as he has stated in multiple occasions, even saying his “bravery” in signing them was a virtue for his election

I am sorry to those who say RDI shouldn’t be an issue, it is an issue, in fact it is the issue because it shows an absolute moral bankruptcy on the part of the CRNC leadership, which in a just world would have Gourley and HoplinCo promptly tossed to the curb. But that’s not the reality of CR leadership, sadly too many CR leaders are in the game to do one thing: to advance their own careers. Block grants to Minnesota to shore up Hoplin’s congressional bid, field reps to a primary in North Carolina, etc are using the organization for personal advancement and instead of outrage over that activity their is pride because state chairs want a piece of the action too; Selling their state’s endorsement to the candidate who can guarantee them the best ticket spot.

The scary part is that these will be the people running the party in 20 years…

WI, NE Jump In

Wednesday, April 13th, 2005

Wisconsin’s executive board voted 9-3 to endorse Davidson and the out-going state chair of Nebraska endorsed Gourley. No word on if the delegates will carry over for Gourley with the incoming state chair. Over the next few days the race will probably solidify, but expect delegate defection at the convention.

Already word is trickling in of defections on both sides possible so even if someone bumps over the 86 mark in “endorsements” it is no guarantee of victory.

Ridiculous

I disagree, it is cool to have a gun.

Bishop Robinson: “Jesus was Gay”?

Wednesday, April 13th, 2005

For those of you who didn’t follow the ordination of Bishop Robinson and the vast war it set off within the Episcopal Church, here is the latest salvo. What is sad that he’s been made a martyr due to his sexual orientation, not because the real reason he was opposed, he has terrible theology as is shown below:

Robinson, who left his wife – and mother of his two daughters – to cohabit with his male lover, Mark, made his inflammatory remarks during an address titled, “Homosexuality and the Body of Christ: Is There a New Way?” at Christ Church of Hamilton and Wenham, Massachusetts. The bishop was asked by a congregant how Christians could both accept homosexuality and the Bible’s emphasis on redemption for sins.

“Interestingly enough, in this day of traditional family values,” answered Robinson, “this man that we follow was single, as far as we know, traveled with a bunch of men, had a disciple who was known as ‘the one whom Jesus loved’ and said my family is not my mother and father, my family is those who do the will of God. None of us likes those harsh words. That’s who Jesus is, that’s who he was at heart, in his earthly life. “

It gets even worse:
“Those who would posit the nuclear family as the be all and end all of God’s creation probably don’t find that much in the gospels to support it,” he concluded.

The funny thing about all this is that the churches that go the way of heretical liberal theology end up losing parishoners by the boat loads where the fastest growing churches (charismatic, evangelical, charismatic Catholic) stick to the traditional Christian orthodoxy.
