Mayor Bob Kerrey?

This would make an interesting race.

Bob Kerrey Considering NYC Mayoral Run

NEW YORK - Former Sen. Bob Kerrey is considering entering the city’s mayoral race, saying Mayor Michael Bloomberg has not fought Republican lawmakers who have hurt the city with tax cuts and reductions in national security funding.

“I am angry about the way New York City is being treated by Washington D.C.,” Kerrey told The New York Times in Sunday editions. “Who is fighting these guys? What would Giuliani and Koch be doing now? They’d be raising hell!”

The 1992 Democratic presidential candidate, a former Nebraska senator and governor, said he would decide within a few days whether he will join the crowded Democratic field. He is now president of New School University.

One of Kerrey’s main criticisms is that Bloomberg is focusing too much on building a stadium on the West Side of Manhattan that has been the centerpiece of the mayor’s campaign to attract the 2012 Olympics.

Aides to Bloomberg said they were surprised by Kerrey’s comments since he accepted an offer to head “Democrats for Bloomberg.” Kerrey said he began having second thoughts after accepting the offer.

I think it is safe to say that when it’s April, 2005 and you are being ruled out, it’s time to hang up your spurs.

Kofi Responds: “Ummm . . . it’s America’s fault!”

Sunday, April 17th, 2005

Kofi Annan has responded to the oil for food scandal by saying the following:

According to Mr. Annan’s latest account, most of the money pocketed by Saddam “came out of smuggling outside the oil-for-food program, and it was on the American and British watch.”
“Possibly, they were the ones who knew exactly what was going on and that the countries themselves decided to close their eyes to smuggling to Turkey and Jordan, because they were allies.”

This is unbelievable. The Washington Times has the whole story.

It is true that Saddam was able to smuggle more oil illegally than he was able to “legally”, but what the hell does that have to do with anything? Kofi is digging a deeeep hole.

Media Bias: Two sides of the coin

Sunday, April 17th, 2005

Yesterday, the Washington Post found it worthy to run this article on its front page: Catholic Dissidents Call for Openness: John Paul Silenced Many, Critics Say.

By some estimates, the Vatican silenced or reprimanded more than 100 Roman Catholic theologians during John Paul’s 26-year reign.

On the other hand, the Washington Times thought that this story deserved front page coverage: Gay Bishop Backs Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood should target “people of faith” to promote abortion rights and comprehensive sex education, the Episcopal Church’s first openly homosexual bishop told a gathering in the District yesterday.

So let’s see. The Post thought that front page news was that JPII reprimanded those who opposed church teaching. The Times thought it was front page news that an Episcopal Bishop has turned against Christianity’s most basic teachings on the respect for human life.

The fact is that the Post is left-wing, the Times is right-wing, but I think if you actually read these two articles you will see that not all ideologies are equal.

p.s. The Episcopal Bishop said this at the Planned Parenthood National Prayer breakfast, although there was no mention as to exactly who or what they were praying too.
