The Political NO, NO

Written by Nate on April 20th, 2005

An issue which is considered political suicide and that no politician dares touch is nuclear energy. Most of the countries in Europe rely on nuclear energy more than any other form of energy. In the United States only 20% of our energy is from nuclear energy and that is only from plants that were built before Three Mile Island. France on the other hand has 70% of its energy derived from nuclear energy. If the French can do it, why can’t the United States with its superior technology and engineering build safe and efficient power plants? This is an issue that is not even being talked about or considered and I believe it should be. In this day and age, we should look for ways to become more independent and self-reliant, not follow policy that makes us dependant and weak. I know there are many who disagree with this idea, but why not at least consider it and debate it?

Amen! We are in desperate need of energy sources that do not enrich those who wish to Americans.

Nuclear power is the way to go.

I largely agree. The only arguments against nuclear energy are vague and emotional. As far as Europe is concerned though, didn’t the Green Party in Germany enter into a coalition with Schroeder and the SDP on the condition that nuclear power would be banned?

Glad to see nuclear energy get some support. For more information on the industry, visit NEI Nuclear Notes.

The Chinese are building nuclear reactors like gangbusters (they are building three in the Yangtze Delta right now). Their latest research is on par with the most advanced plant designs in the United States. They use balls of uranium, not rods, and use helium to power the turbines instead of steam. A meltdown is chemically impossible due to the helium. We are currently trying to get a research plant of the the same design online in Boise, but it is facing opposition from all of the Hollywood transplants.
