Dump Sherwood?

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

In Pennsylvania, there has develped a weird story concerning Don Sherwood (R-PA-10) where a young woman who was in his apartment recieving a “back massage” claims Sherwood tried to choke her to death. Both have since vastly changed their stories so no one is charged though the young woman, who Sherwood met at a YR meeting was definitely recieving some kind of massage he was giving in his DC apartment. Oh and Congressman Sherwood is married. Very weird story.

The incident has caused this blog to jump up. We’ll see what happens.

Pieces of CRNC Race… Discuss

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

CRVets Get Owned: If you want to see an actual breakdown of the CRVetsforSpin piece I lambasted earlier I would check it out here.

Eric Hoplin & The Minnesota GOP:

But the most contentious GOP race in Minnesota, ironically, is not for a House or Senate seat at all, but for control of the State party itself. The heirs apparent and current leadership, consisting of Ron Ebensteiner and Eric Hoplin for State Chair and Deputy Chair (endorsed by Governor Pawlenty) are being seriously challenged by Bill Pulkrabek, running for Party Chair, and Tom Ellenbecker (from Waite Park) running for vice chair. In a scathing attack, Mr. Pulkrabek laid the loss of the 13 House seats directly at the feet of Ebensteiner. Mr. Pulkrabek also criticized Ebensteiner for attempting to run a “top-down” organization instead of a “bottom-up” organization. Pulkrabek pledged to run a “bottom up” organization, and to visit every BPOU to assess and meet their needs rather than dictate policy to them. I’ll be following this very closely, as I am inclined to agree with Mr. Pulkrabek on many of his points.

Jack Abramoff & The CRNC?

Discuss amongst yourselves.

Give ‘em the Finger

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

Since you probably won’t be in a position to actually flip the bird at your favorite RINO U.S. Senators, here’s the next best thing. Link from Victor Lams.

I think a lot of SavetheGOP-ers are college students, so when you sell the used books back, forego the school paraphenalia binge and post one up for the rule of law.

New York Times Smear

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

NY Times columnist Bob Herbert wrote an article alledging abuse and murder of Iraqis solely based on the unsubstantiated claims of one Army mechanic who dropped out of the military as a ‘conscientious objector’. The Corner has an email from another soldier who apparently wasn’t thrust into a “moral quagmire” by Iraq and offers another account of the riot in which Iraqi prionsers were killed.

The contempt that Delgado and Herbert have for the military spews from the page. Perhaps the NY Times will continue the same sort of journalistic integrity and see what allegations a KKK member has about his experiences with minorities.

Would we have been able to win WWII if the American media had the same contempt for our soldiers?

Liberals For Corker

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

For those of you who have paid any attention to the TN GOP Primary between Bryant, Hillery, and Corker should know that it is likely that whoever wins this primary will be the next Senator from Tennessee and that conservatives have a lot on the line with two conservatives: Bryant, Hilleary and one RINO: Corker.

A left leaning blog recently noted that all the Democrats planning to run are too far to the right on social issues and that progressives should unite behind Corker because

If you’re a conservative who values fiscal responsibility above the religious fanaticism currently posing as “conservatism,” this is your candidate.

Translation: If you have some fiscal sense but want to keep abortion legal, legalize gay marriage, etc then Corker is your man.
Enough said, Corker must lose in ‘06! My personal favorite is Bryant and our friends at Blogging for Bryant are doing a good job making the cause for him.

UPDATE: Latest polling in GOP primary (Chattanooga Times Free Press)
Bryant 35%
Hilleary 26%
Corker 15%
Undecided 24%

Latest fundraising #’s
Name / Cash on Hand / Raised 1Q 2005
Corker/ $2,456,693 / $613,000
Bryant / $396,243 / $414,000
Hilleary / $387,008 / $400,000

Corker is polling the lowest in the poll but obviously his $2.5m COH is pretty intimidating

CRVets: Missing The Point

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

Come on Mazanec, I know you aren’t this ignorant. Quit the bull.

Where Davidson begins to willfully mislead CRs is when he discussed his new mid-level bureaucracy proposal to create four Regional Political Directors (RPD). Under Davidson’s proposal four full time RPD would be placed in each of the CRNC’s four national regions. They would be deployed for nine months (August-April) and would be covering 12-13 states, with their monthly plan determined by all the states in the region. Obviously such a widespread expansion of middle-management would mandate a significant increase in the CRNC budget, something Davidson deliberately attempts to distort- just as he distorted the CRNC’s 2004 financial picture and his record in California click here for details.

Wow, again I expect more from the illustrious Gourley campaign and its ghost writing apparatus over at CRVetsForSpin. This is not a beucracy proposal, this is something that actually might help people, but I don’t think honestly the Gourley folks care about helping chapters. I hate to burst some bubbles here but the field rep program ain’t the panacea everyone claims it to be. Having worked in multiple states and seen it in action it needs A LOT of reform. People who are in the field temporarily and just pass through are not the solution to longterm grassroots sustainability. Long term, full time folks would do a lot to alleviate this transient problem. I know I am commiting CR sacrilige by bashing the field program, but I’ve already been put on the Don Hoplin “outs” list so why stop now.

Let us again look at the facts, Gourley has no new ideas and is recycling the Hoplin mantra. He will be the puppet of the same-old-same-old corruption forces. Let us not kid ourselves about this. Anyone who can look at this whole situation and think Hoplin, Gourley, and Company played everything on the up and up is willfully decieving themselves. Moreover, the CRNC needs honest changes so that once again it represents the CHAPTERS not the cadre of CR leaders who don’t care about anything except advancing their careers.

Is Michael Davidson perfect? No. But is it the first step in the right direction of tossing out the careerists? Yes.

Vigilantes’ on the border?

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

Thomas Sowell had a great article that explains why most of our leaders are not doing anything about illegal immigration.

Social Security used to be called the third rail of politics but illegal immigration is the real third rail that both political parties are afraid to touch.

Cops who find illegal aliens are under orders not to turn them in to the feds. And the federal government’s own border guards have their hands tied by the higher-ups as well.

Now that Hispanics are the largest minority in the country, and with the country closely divided politically, neither party wants to risk alienating the Hispanic vote by enforcing immigration laws.

New Jersey Update

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

One of Liddy Dole’s few key recruitments so far for the ‘06 cycle has been State Sen. Tom Kean Jr to run for the Senate seat that will likely open up with Corzine looking as a shoe-in for for NJ Governor in ‘05. Kean is son of former Governor Kean of New Jersey, who won re-election at one point with 71% of the vote, a record. The Kean family name is Kean Jr’s biggest asset. Unfortunately Kean Jr recieved an “F” rating from the local NRA chapter and is well known as a RINO throughout the state.

On the Governor’s side of things the Republican nomination has boiled down to a battle between moderate/RINO Doug Forrester and conservative Bret Schundler. The problem for Schundler is that in 2001 he won an upset victory for the GOP nomination and then went on to get destroyed in the General by McGreevy. I am not sure anyone can win this race against Corzine and his massive warchest, but here’s hoping to a Governor Schundler.
UPDATE:
Polling - Quinnipiac Apr 30
Forrester - 45%
Schundler - 40%

Corzine - 46%
Forrester - 36%

Corzine - 47%
Schundler - 33%

NOTE: Check out the Students for Doug website. Why is it that no one can run a real youth effort, and instead uses these groups as fake fronts of press friendly energy. ugh.

Robertson Says Giulani Would Make Good President

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

In another sign that Pat Robertson is crazier than even I ever imagined, he recently was quoted as saying Rudy Giulani is “a very good friend … and I think he’d make a good President.” I’ve told so many people that Rudy will win because the impotence of the pro-life movement and its inabilityu to rally the troops besides at once-a-year marches that do little to achieve the goal. (I am all for the March for Life, but if those people had volunteered in PA instad of marching two years ago we would’ve had Senator Toomey this year, the same could be said for coutnless other races that I’m sure Alex, Nate, and I can all testify to).

If Pat Robertson can swallow the pro-abort Rudy pill than just wait to see how all the “pro-life” and fiscally “conservative” influentials will bend over backwards to back Rudy. This is bad bad news folks.

Mexifornia

The image is from “Blue State Conservatives” via the California Mafia. I’m somewhat ashamed to admit that I have a hard time getting really worked up about immigration (I have a feeling I’ll hear about that), but this is grotesque. I’ve been meaning to read Victor Davis Hanson’s “Mexifornia”, but I haven’t had a chance yet, or the money. This news item is added encouragement to check it out.
