The Threat Of Rebellion

Thursday, May 5th, 2005

Rumor has it that as many as sixteen states may be in violation of the CR convention and at least one member of the credentials committee, Brian Mazanec, has seemed to intone that all those in violation would lose their delegates. If even 1/3rd of these states (5-6) get kicked out of the convention it will put the CRNC in very precarious position. If all of them get kicked off it will set up a position for a rift in the CRNC that could likely lead to a rebellion of a sort not seen of late. HoplinCo, Gourley, Davidson, etc must tread very carefully because the very existence of the Krank in a functioning manner is now lying in the balance. I would plead with credentials members to keep in mind the possible ramification of their actions.

BBC Calls Election For Labour

Thursday, May 5th, 2005

68 Seat Majority.

I think at this point it looks almost for sure Labour will hold their majroity but the big question is by how much, and it looks like it will be less than everyone was predicting with Labour losing about 100 seats.

UK Election Tight, Labour Victory Likely

Thursday, May 5th, 2005

In an election that is turning out to be much closer than expected it looks like Tony Blair will keep his seat but with a projected margin of only 66 seats as opposed to the 130-some he had previously. Exit polls (we know how reliable those are) show a 6 point swing from Labour to Conservative and a bad night for the LibDems (perhaps the most surprising result as many expected this to be the LibDems return).

UPDATE: BBC right now is reporting a serious possibility of a “bloody evening for the Labour party” Several key target seats are apparently clear Tory victories

UPDATE: According to the BBC their exit polls may have seriously over-estimated Labour’s strength. This could be a big upset tonight. Go TORIES!!!

UPDATE: Tories may pick up a seat that was not even on the “watch list” which is usually sign of a big swing that was unpredicted.

UPDATE: The Tories are looking to pick up the #115th seat on their list, which would be truly astounding. Turn on the BBC if you have it, its very interesting.

UPDATE: Two seats so far one 4% swing to Conservative and one 5% swing to Conservative, which would be pushing the possibility of a hung parliament. This is going to be exciting.

The Religous Right

Thursday, May 5th, 2005

This is an awesome article defending the case of the “Religous Right.” James Taranto gets it right on this one.

“One can disagree with religious conservatives on abortion, gay rights, school prayer, creationism and any number of other issues, and still recognize that they have good reason to feel disfranchised. This isn’t the same as the oft-heard complaint of “anti-Christian bigotry,” which is at best imprecise, since American Christians are all over the map politically. But those who hold traditionalist views have been shut out of the democratic process by a series of court decisions that, based on constitutional reasoning ranging from plausible to ludicrous, declared the preferred policies of the secular left the law of the land.”

UK Elections Today

Thursday, May 5th, 2005

I know some of the bloggers out there disagree but as good as Blair might be on foreign policy he still belongs to a heavily socialist party. The Conservatives aren’t great and are likely to lose AGAIN tommorow, but they are better.
