Supreme Court Russian Roulette

SCOTUS

Drudge is reporting that the White House is preparing for two vacancies on the SCOTUS.

The hysteria surrounding this is somewhat like that associated with conspiracy theories about rebuilding the Temple of Solomon, but eventually someone (maybe even this President) will be in a position to name a Supreme Court Justice. I’m not really looking forward to it for two reasons: One, I hate watching cable news talk shows and I don’t want to feel enticed to do so. Two, I hold the belief that the White House will nominate terrible justices.

And The Show Has Hit A New Low…

Sunday, May 8th, 2005

In a conference call that occurred Saturday afternoon, the North Carolina Federation of College Republicans has affirmed its previously announced endorsement of Paul Gourley by a vote of 19 to 12. Sources within the Tar Heel state hint that any Gourley support that might have been wavering was solidified by an article that appeared in The Herald-Sun (of Durham, NC). The article, which was largely based on information issued in a press release by the CRNC in February, concluded with a paragraph that was nothing more than an obvious campaign pitch for Davidson. Clearly, CRs in North Carolina did not look fondly on the unholy alliance between the Davidson campaign and the liberal media and expressed their displeasure forcefully.

After reading this utter sack of lies from the Gourley campaign blog, CRVetsForSpin, I had to say something.

First the Congressman “bought-and-paid-for” McHenry acting under Don Hoplin’s orders harrased chapter chairs and twisted major arms in the state. Is it a win for Gourley. Yes, but was it due to the “unholy alliance between the Davidson campaign and the liberal media” Come on Herbert! You are not that idiotic? I know that’s in the Gourley talking points, but let’s not just rehash. Gourley won cause he did what always happens he made quid-pro-quo promises and threats. North Carolina caved to the HoplinCo folks and pushed us one step closer to civil war.

This was not about the liberal media this was about politics and the fact that Gourley campaign was better than the Davidson one this time around. That being said I want to say that this has reached the level where I too am questioning how much longer this fight is worth it. It is evident that HoplinCo will buy/cheat/steal/etc they need to do to win. At some point, we may have to accept the sad reality that their ability to threaten/cajole/quid-pro-quo is greater than the forces of ethics within the CRs.

There are good people backing Gourley and bad people backing Davidson so the line is not straight down the middle, but the type of political careerist BS must be put ot an end.

This fight will not be over though, it will just be begining. Where it goes now is to chapters and state federations. Its time to begin tossing all the scum bag leaders of the CRs who back this crap. The line in the sand has been crossed and those who sell their states endorsement for a ticket spot, or other political whoring deserve immediate impeachment and removal. WE may lose this battle, but the war for the soul of the CRs is just begining

Sino-American Relations cont’d

Sunday, May 8th, 2005

Here’s a recent article from the Washington Times: Who wants a strong China?

The author objects to the massive US transfer of wealth to China, not so much because of Ms. Cox Gurdon’s human rights concerns but rather the war-posturing toward Taiwan and Japan.

Boost in military spending is a function of being “prosperous,” and the massive American trade deficit with China gives Beijing the hard currency to finance “foreign weapon acquisitions” — mostly Russian systems designed to attack American targets. As for “transforming,” it seems Beijing is moving from a moribund Marxism to an energetic fascism. Is it really so difficult to connect the dots?

I’d appreciate the thoughts of the SaveTheGOPers who have first hand experience in China. That is, if you haven’t been turned into Manchurian Candidates yet

A good write-up over on the Shadow of the Olive Tree on the economic (actually cultural) problems facing Europe. Worth a read if that sort of thing interests you.

My Thoughts

Sunday, May 8th, 2005

I know there will be a lot of people who will disagree with me, but I will share my thoughts on the CR debacle anyway. The College Republicans have done good things, and there are many, many dedicated college students who are members who are idealistic, patriotic and love their country. Individuals who voluntarily put in countless hours of time and sacrifice to advance the Republican ideals we all hold dear.

What I have come to despise more than socialist liberals or communist professors who hate America, are scumbag RINO republicans who sell their soul to become political careerists, and then indoctrinate others and promote others like them. I count myself in that group of college Republicans who have put in the time and sacrifice to advance the Republican ideals that Reagan fought for, such as smaller government, lower taxes, having a strong defense, promoting ownership and personal responsibility, and protecting every individual’s right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. What I have come to find is that some of the biggest obstacles to advancing these ideals are fellow Republicans. When I look at some of the individuals who are products of the CRs and then at the current disaster the organization is in right now, it brings me to conclude that the CR leadership is a factory that is producing careerist sellouts and the organization as a embarrassment that is degrading to the legacy of Reagan, Lincoln and everything I believing in, work for and sacrifice for.

Whether or not there is a split or civil war or not, one thing is for sure, there needs to be a national gathering and organization of movement conservatives from the CR. It is time for conservatives in the CR to get some backbones and get organized. The current state of the CR has disenfranchised caring and hard working college republicans and has made the organization a laughingstock to outsiders. After it is all said and done, no matter how the election turns out or what the fate of the organization is, it is my hope that as a result from the discussion, debate and attention to the issues that have gone unnoticed and unchecked for far too long, that it will bring about a more organized, attentive and active conservative movement within the CR. I do not want there to be a split because of the damage it would cause to the party. It is my hope that we can learn from this, but regardless, split or no split, it is about time we are honest about the issues facing us and determine to do something about it.

50% (3 of 6) Chapter Chairs Call on State CR Chair To Resign

May 7, 2005

Scott Darnell
NMFCR Chairman

Chairman Darnell:

We, the undersigned Chairmen of our respective College Republican chapters and College Republican officers, do hereby call for your immediate resignation as NMFCR Chairman. We do not take this request lightly, as we feel that for the following reasons you have misrepresented the NMFCR and the Republican Party’s traditions and values over the last two years.

- During 2004, you failed to call any executive board meetings or a state convention violating Article 6 Section 1 in the NMFCR Constitution.

- Although you are a member of the CRNC credentialing committee, you failed to turn in our credentialing information by March 1, 2005. This negligence landed the NMFCR with only two votes at the CRNC national convention this summer. This move also may cost us our two votes as determined by the credentialing committee on May 31, 2005 in which the committee will review our status compared to Article 5 Section 9 of the CRNC Constitution, which reads:

“Section Nine. [Documentation of eligibility] To be eligible for delegate votes (other than a delegate vote that may be cast by a CRNC national officer), a state federation must submit the following documentation to the designated auditing firm by certified or registered mail, postmarked no later than March 1 of the year of the Biennial Convention…”

- On April 2, 2005 you called an unconstitutional Executive Board meeting to vote on a candidate for CRNC Chairman, in which you allowed two chapter chairs to vote and did not allow adequate time for the meeting. This action also broke rules in several parts of Article 6 Section 1 in the NMFCR constitution.

- As NMFCR Chairman, you have failed to uphold your duties as stated in Article 3 Section 2. There are many subsections of Section 2 where you have fallen short or totally neglected your duties (especially subsections D and E).

- On April 14, 2005 you made the call for the NMFCR State Convention to be held on May 13, 2005. This decision was in direct violation of Article 6 Section 6 of the NMFCR constitution which states “Notice of the date, time, and location of the State Convention shall be given no less than eight weeks prior to the meeting”.

- During the month of April 2005, on at least two occasions, you approved of the unconstitutional action of UNMCR Chairwoman Phara Forsythe to cancel the UNMCR elections and reschedule them for the fall of 2005. This is in direct violation of Article 3 Section 2 of the UNMCR constitution which states “all officers shall be elected at a regular CR meeting between April 1 and April 30 of each year, to be announced in writing to all members not less than two weeks in advance”.

- When calling for the NMFCR convention on April 14, 2005, you failed to let NMFCR Executive Director Bob Cornelius take his rightful spot as head of the credentials committee as stated in Article 7 Section 2 Subsections A and C. This action led to other violations by you and NMFCR Secretary Chris Atencio on May 3, 2005 when you both failed to delegate the right amount of votes to any College Republican chapter in the state as mentioned in Article 7 Sections 2-6.

We have listed here at least eight times in just the past year that you have refused to go by the governing document of our organization. Your consistent disregard of the NMFCR constitution leaves us no choice but to ask you to resign your position as NMFCR Chairman. You, or any member of the NMFCR Executive Board, have no right to make up rules as you go.

How can we as Republicans denounce activist judges, while allowing you and others in leadership positions to fail to follow an 8 page constitution? Our credibility as an organization has been diminished greatly, and we would like for you to resign now, while you still have the chance to resign with some dignity. We hope that you take this request seriously, and resign your office immediately.

Thank you,

ENMUCR Chairman Robert Seyller
CRCSW Chairman Dusty Marshall
CRNMJC Chairman Nathan Miles

I feel like we’re dealing with total collapse of the Republic right about now… and there’s no Jedi Knights left to fight for us.
