And The Show Has Hit A New Low…
Written by Mark Harris on May 8th, 2005In a conference call that occurred Saturday afternoon, the North Carolina Federation of College Republicans has affirmed its previously announced endorsement of Paul Gourley by a vote of 19 to 12. Sources within the Tar Heel state hint that any Gourley support that might have been wavering was solidified by an article that appeared in The Herald-Sun (of Durham, NC). The article, which was largely based on information issued in a press release by the CRNC in February, concluded with a paragraph that was nothing more than an obvious campaign pitch for Davidson. Clearly, CRs in North Carolina did not look fondly on the unholy alliance between the Davidson campaign and the liberal media and expressed their displeasure forcefully.
After reading this utter sack of lies from the Gourley campaign blog, CRVetsForSpin, I had to say something.
First the Congressman “bought-and-paid-for” McHenry acting under Don Hoplin’s orders harrased chapter chairs and twisted major arms in the state. Is it a win for Gourley. Yes, but was it due to the “unholy alliance between the Davidson campaign and the liberal media” Come on Herbert! You are not that idiotic? I know that’s in the Gourley talking points, but let’s not just rehash. Gourley won cause he did what always happens he made quid-pro-quo promises and threats. North Carolina caved to the HoplinCo folks and pushed us one step closer to civil war.
This was not about the liberal media this was about politics and the fact that Gourley campaign was better than the Davidson one this time around. That being said I want to say that this has reached the level where I too am questioning how much longer this fight is worth it. It is evident that HoplinCo will buy/cheat/steal/etc they need to do to win. At some point, we may have to accept the sad reality that their ability to threaten/cajole/quid-pro-quo is greater than the forces of ethics within the CRs.
There are good people backing Gourley and bad people backing Davidson so the line is not straight down the middle, but the type of political careerist BS must be put ot an end.
This fight will not be over though, it will just be begining. Where it goes now is to chapters and state federations. Its time to begin tossing all the scum bag leaders of the CRs who back this crap. The line in the sand has been crossed and those who sell their states endorsement for a ticket spot, or other political whoring deserve immediate impeachment and removal. WE may lose this battle, but the war for the soul of the CRs is just begining

McHenry personally called up several club chairs even that morning before the conference call & pretty much indirectly threatened them. That’s ridiculous & unfair. Not many club chairs (especially new ones) are going to say no to a US Congressman.

Thats a lot of bullshit and you know what, it’s over. If anything only two people on the call were affected by anything. Those two people switched their votes to Gourley because of the inappropriate behavior displayed by Davidson supporters.

you’re right savethegop, it has to end. Now will you join with me in publically condemning the davidson supporters in michigan for their corruption? Will you endorse reinstating cassin? And will you decry davidson for his immature and awful response to the serious crisis in MI that his supporters and people he is in daily contact with helped create?

Corruption in MI? You need to pull your head out of your ass. Cassin is the corruption! Bringing in Dems to help get him elected. Supporting known liberals for positions in the MFCR. That is corruption. Davidson can support Cassin getting his position back all he wants but Saul will not allow it.

Hey anon check out our posts on Michigan we condemned the removal of Cassin. LoL! So thanks for joining the team now lets throw out all the corrupt careerists.

BTW check out our post here where I talk about the Cassin incident and the terrible precedent it sets. So now that I’ve joined you, will you join me in calling for the ouster of the corrupt careerists in the CRNC?

Yah we’re the spinsers, you guys are the guardians of truth, particularly when your polls read:
Why do people keep trying to rig our polls by voting over and over?
They’re so used to rigging CR elections they just can’t help it
Patrick McHenry pays them to
Eric Hoplin tells them to
They are under the illusion that it matters
They are compensating for something
…..
Gimme a break.

Mark, at some point you have to stop saying this:
“There are good people on both sides”
Look, I have no doubt that the Davidson camp has some scumbags, but if you are supporting the Gourley camp one of two things is true. You lack the capacity to be informed or understand the information you have before you or secondly you are a crook yourself.
I don’t know why you toss these guys a bone all the time by saying that, they aren’t good. You think they don’t know who and what Paul Gourley is?

Can Vernon Robinson move into McHenry’s district and primary him?
9
PM
Robinson is not very popular. However, McHenry will surely have multiple primary opponents.
9
PM
Who plans to run against him? Are any of them serious candidates?
9
PM
Robinson is a psycho is more like it. Unforunately I only learned this after donating money to his campaign.
9
PM
It’s a safe bet that McHenry will be reelected

Patrick is $250,000 in debt, and he only eeked out a primary win by 80-some odd votes. With him pissing off numerous individuals throughout he may not get the party support he had last year.

Can’t help when you start threatening CRs either, lol

Oh and Shuy, when was the last time you posted any negative thing about Gourley period. I mean we are adamantly pro-Davidson but we have definitely questioned some of the moves. We condemned what happened in MI, some campaign tactics, etc. But to say Davidson lost NC because of his connections to the media is just not true not even in the slightest. The house is burning down and we’re having a fight over blog posts. I mean there have now been people on both sides talking about maybe its better if the CRNC falls apart, that is a real problem that needs solved if people think that little of the national organization. Yet where is Don Hoplin? Out trying to save his political career from the trainwreck of RDI/CRNC-in-house fundraising.

I wasn’t necessarily serious about Vernon Robinson. How is he a psycho?
9
PM
McHenry will get re-elected?? Ha..thats a joke. Well, maybe if the CRNC sends down 65 paid staffers again…he barely won last time. And now when all the dirt about him threatening CRs and his other wonderful behaviors get out, he hasnt a chance in hell.

When asked what the greatest threat to America’s national security was, Robinson replied “Gays in the military.” Seriously.

Mark, I haven’t–from the getgo I’ve established very clearly that I am not an objective commentator and that I do have an opinion. Show me where I’ve hidden these proclamations? All I am saying is that calling other people partisans as a means of debate is ineffective, which you seem to be agreeing with me here.
I still don’t understand the Don Hoplin thing. I don’t act on other peoples orders and my posts are my own and always have been. Paul, Eric, etc etc have never asked me to post a thing. The only thing Paul asked me for was my support and I gave it to him with the reasons I’ve stated 100x for you guys. There is this gross suggestion of some grand conspiracy that is really pretty silly. Equally why you don’t see me running around saying Davidson hasn’t been successful, I think he is qualified, but I trust the job more in Paul’s hands. I am still seeking answers on the irs filings because if the critique of Paul from Michael deals with RDI then his finances are open to inspection as well–but he is conveniently ignoring that.

You don’t act on other people’s orders? Now, you know that no one believes that, right? That’s why “CR vets for anything hoplin tells us to write about gourley” has lost all credibility.

Don Hoplin comment comes from those who’ve been under the thumb. The fact is that the Hoplin adminstration threatens people to get things done, and plays it off as “politics.” I am glad those tactics have never been used on you, but they have been on others. The point is Shuy, as I’ve said before that there are good people on both sides, yourself & Mazanec included. But that what Gourley and Hoplin represent is more of the hacktocracy that gives all of us CRs a bad name. When CRs want to leave the organization b/c how a state convention was handled (as happened here in DC) thats ALL of our problems.
