My Thoughts
Written by Nate on May 8th, 2005I know there will be a lot of people who will disagree with me, but I will share my thoughts on the CR debacle anyway. The College Republicans have done good things, and there are many, many dedicated college students who are members who are idealistic, patriotic and love their country. Individuals who voluntarily put in countless hours of time and sacrifice to advance the Republican ideals we all hold dear.
What I have come to despise more than socialist liberals or communist professors who hate America, are scumbag RINO republicans who sell their soul to become political careerists, and then indoctrinate others and promote others like them. I count myself in that group of college Republicans who have put in the time and sacrifice to advance the Republican ideals that Reagan fought for, such as smaller government, lower taxes, having a strong defense, promoting ownership and personal responsibility, and protecting every individual’s right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. What I have come to find is that some of the biggest obstacles to advancing these ideals are fellow Republicans. When I look at some of the individuals who are products of the CRs and then at the current disaster the organization is in right now, it brings me to conclude that the CR leadership is a factory that is producing careerist sellouts and the organization as a embarrassment that is degrading to the legacy of Reagan, Lincoln and everything I believing in, work for and sacrifice for.
Whether or not there is a split or civil war or not, one thing is for sure, there needs to be a national gathering and organization of movement conservatives from the CR. It is time for conservatives in the CR to get some backbones and get organized. The current state of the CR has disenfranchised caring and hard working college republicans and has made the organization a laughingstock to outsiders. After it is all said and done, no matter how the election turns out or what the fate of the organization is, it is my hope that as a result from the discussion, debate and attention to the issues that have gone unnoticed and unchecked for far too long, that it will bring about a more organized, attentive and active conservative movement within the CR. I do not want there to be a split because of the damage it would cause to the party. It is my hope that we can learn from this, but regardless, split or no split, it is about time we are honest about the issues facing us and determine to do something about it.

Amen. I have to say fortunately though, most people around me know “that type” when they see it. The problem - at least in my experience - is that they sneak up on ya at the chapter level and you have no advance warning until it’s too late.
We’ve got to stand your ground and fight em’. (And hey, I have)

Pardon the bad grammar. We’ve got to stand OUR ground and fight em’

Nate, what a great post, you just said everything I wanted to say about CRs and more. My faith in CRs has been slowly eroded since I was a freshman at GT, by now it is gone. When Alex was punished for his continued support of Cain after the primaries were over I seriously considered burning the bridges, but didn’t because of the tremendous respect I held for Britton Alexander.
With Georgia going or leaning towards the Gourley camp that faith is gone. Britton Alexander has to step up and make a stand here.
One more thing Nate, you don’t go far enough, because the CRs are inherently designed to allow the turds to float to the top of the cesspool. I want a new organization, a conservative organization that isn’t about power, but principles. I also despise the traitors in our midst, mostly because they undercut us as badly as any liberal has. They pander to us with talk, you know who we are? We are the black people of the GOP. Just like the Democrats use and abuse their black constiuency by talking civil rights but keeping black people down, the GOP talks a conservative ball game, but when the ball is snapped everything changes. I for one am sick and tired of being pandered to.
Save the GOP?
How about we raze it to the ground and rebuild the party of loyalty, love, and patriotism that we thought we knew.

Isn’t YAF the “conservative” organization for college students? I thought it was, but i can’t even tell if its still alive and kicking…

Wow, you guys are experts at demonizing your opponents. The idea that Mike Davidson and his supporters have a monopoly on conservatism and that anyone on the other side is a RINO sellout is laughable. News flash: there are careerists on both sides of this fight and that includes both Davidson and Gourley.

Perhaps we ought to organize a national conference for the CR Conservative Caucus to get organized in a real way. The way I see it we have to answer a fundamental question which is do we go for a strong College Republican Conservative Caucus to fight for change and provide an outlet for movement conservatives within CRs, or recognizing the institutional problems with CRs do we go for a national Young Conservatives organization. I see as much problem with the latter as with the former so I think there is a lot of discussion that needs to happen.
(Reason being, while I understand that in most states the GOP leadership is made up of RINOs and moderates, in Texas the movement conservatives — the social conservatives anyway — run the show, hence the Young Conservatives organization has a tendency to border on John Birch type stuff, at least on the campus level. I know a lot of solid people in the YCT leadership and in different chapters but on the local level they can get a little ridiculous sometimes.)

A few young turks attempted, somewhat quixotically, to start a YAF chapter at the George Washington University as an antidote to RINO CRs. It didn’t work, I think largely because the national organization is defunct, and they claimed there were problems with the national charter. I didn’t understant how considering global communism a threat was a problem, but….

#7 what is your point? I mean you still think this is about politics and who wins this stupid, pointless election.
Read this next bit slowly: I don’t give a fig about Davidson or if he wins. I want Gourley to lose.
I want the organization I am a part of to stop being so damn corrupt and crimminal. And your attitude towards the serious shit that has happened is not acceptable.
A RINO is anyone who isn’t a true conservative. In otherwords anyone who is corrupt is not a Republican. Gourley is a RINO because he is a crook, not because of his stance (whatever it may be) on abortion. Hoplin is a RINO because he is a crook, so what if he favors tax-cuts?
Being a greasy wheeler-dealer is not a conservative value.

I honestly don’t know, but has there been an attempt by the Young Conservatives of Pennsylvania/Texas to export their model to other states?

YCOP or YCT would be good models to emulate YCT is more campus based where YCOP is more out of college folks.
