The Enemy Rears Its Head in Michigan

Saturday, May 14th, 2005

The Republican Main Street Partnership held a meeting in Michigan recently (article available here)

The group counts four Michigan congressmen among its members — Reps. Vern Ehlers of Grand Rapids, Fred Upton of St. Joseph, Joe Schwarz of Battle Creek and Dave Camp of Midland. Other notable members include Sens. John McCain of Arizona and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania.

The group’s goal is to get more moderate candidates elected to office.

It has had some successes, including Schwarz’s victory in 2004 over a handful of more conservative candidates in the GOP primary.

“We’re not looking for a litmus test. We just want to broaden the base of the party and make it more welcoming to differing points of view,” Lukens said. “The pendulum has been swinging in a more conservative vein. But the pendulum swings back and forth, and we’re hoping to move it back to the moderate side.”

Joe Schwarz for those of you who don’t know replaced Nick Smith (a fantastic conservative) in the house. Schwarz is an uber-RINO we should all be be afraid of. RMSP has teamed up with the Republican Youth Majority and Republicans for Choice to try to push the party to the left, particularly the College Republicans. So keep your eyes peeled, these folks are liberals no doubt about it. Also if anyone know anything about a solid conservative primarying Schwarz let me know cause I definitely want to help out with kicking that RINO out.

Its huntin’ season!

New Mexico State Fed Splits

Saturday, May 14th, 2005

The state Federation of College Republicans in New Mexico is now officially in civil war having elected two different slates of officers, and both appealing to the NM GOP to recognize their group as the legitimate one. This is far from unheard of (read up on the Rove CRNC race) but certainly a sad turn of events.

I will not put my foot into the breach there as both sides tell two RADICALLY different stories. But it should be handled delicately by all sides, this is exactly the type of thing that could get out of control and fissure the entire CRNC.
