Spoilers allowed, so if you read please don’t whine.

I’ll kick it off with some random observations:
-Did Frank Oz really forget how to do Yoda’s voice?
-Why didn’t anyone mention that Amidala looked pregnant?
-Did Nicholas Sparks write the romance dialogue?
-Wasn’t the last thing that Yoda said to Obi-Wan an obvious afterthought?
I’ll have to see it at least once more before I can start to form an opinion on the film. Ultimately, I don’t think George Lucas complete the job of bridging the new films with the old.
Thoughts? Bueller?

Sorry, someone said Jar Jar Binks is in it. Until I find out for certain I won’t go. There’s no way I’m paying good money to suffer through that again.
I’m a big fan of the movies but a girl has to have her standards.

Janette: Oh absolutely no worries about Jar Jar… he’s definately in it… but i don’t recall him ever having a single speaking or in the least bit important role. As yoda would say “better than the first 2 it was.” I just got back from the midnight showing- I already want to see it again.

Pretty good, I will need to see it a second time for sure. The dialogue is still rough, especially between Padme and Anakin. The plot development is superb esp the last ten minutes or so which sets the stage for Ep IV

Best part: Jar Jar appears twice and never speaks.
Worst part: Jar Jar appears.
In all seriousness this is actually a decent movie. I thought the acting was only par, but my brother the USC film major thinks it was awesome. As far as the actual content goes, my early thoughts are here.

I think you hit everything on the head Alex. Especially point 4, at one point I was really admiring the way Emperor Palpatine was channeling Uncle Screwtape, showing the seductive side of evil. The next second Anakin was killing “younglings”, I hate that word. Where was the internal conflict?
The surgery scene was pretty cool though.
And I disagree that Phantom Menace was the worst movie. Every Star Wars fan knows that “honor” falls on Return of the Jedi. Come on….

Quick question… If Obi Wan hangs out on Tatooine all of Luke’s life, and then in Empire Strikes Back Yoda tries to say “he’s too old to begin the training”… why the hell didn’t they start training him when he was younger or what not? You’re right… I saw it again this afternoon and it was rushed. Every scene goes quick. The lightsaber duels were like on fastforward, you can’t see any moves at all. That and the opening starfighter scene everything moves so fast you really can’t see anything. The DVD will be well served if they attempt to slow down those moves a lil bit along w/ starfights. I would have to agree Mark tho that the last ten minutes were the best. Reason being they answered questions from the first trilogy and actually spent time with good dialogue.
Also, on the point of Anakin turning over to the dark-side. For Anakin he was always indecisive and if he just acted then typically he regretted it (aka dooku and the sandpeople). He had been going down the path to the dark side for a while and after he cut Mace’s hands off it was either: go back to the Jedi and face possible expulsion from the Jedi Order (which could also happen if they found out padme was pregnant)… or join the Chancellor (d.s.) and try to save Padme. At first i thought it was really rushed too, but seriously how many of us make quick decisions that end up leading us to the dark side…
for example
1) Gourley signing letters, bragging about benefits, then trying to say he had nothing to do with it.
2) New state chairs thinking that signing out w/ Gourley will help them gain power and move up the political ladder.
3) Paul and Hoppy leaving and going to Europe last summer when we were all working our asses off trying to get our President elected… oh yeah I wonder who paid for that trip?… (once again trying to grow power)
and the list goes on…

I think the biggest disappointment is that Darth Vader got that way because of a girl.

The last 10 mins of the movie are really good. I was disappointed when they didn’t even show Anakin wipe out the Jedi in the temple! I never liked the fact that only Yoda and Ben survived out of all the Jedi.
