Look at how low Gourley will stoop in order to win. Paul Gourley can’t be trusted. Anyone that thinks he (Hoplin by proxy) wasn’t behind this is brain dead.

So Paul Gourley controls every little thing his supporters do, but Michael Davidson had nothing to do with his supporters ousting the elected chair of the Michigan federation or the antics down in New Mexico? Give me a break.

What is worse, disenfranchising or dissolution of a state federation? Not only did “one of davidson’s biggest supporters sam moore” (to use davidson’s logic) steal votes from gourley, but he GAINED votes for davidson (something more than would happen now) but he destroyed a state federation in the process. Davidson justified the action because it was within the rules, well guess what buddy, so is this. Davidson showed he was willing to do whatever he could to win. Full circle, its all come full circle.

oh come on, yall are still on that Michigan crap. Wake up! Blaiming Michael for Michigan just shows your ignorance. But there are more ties between Paul and Adam than Bill and Monica. All it would take is a phone call for Paul to fix it. Well actually it probably only took a phone call for him to set it up.

How can you people be so obtuse? You’re so blinded by partisanship that you take everything Davidson says at face value while spinning fanciful conspiracy theories about Paul Gourley and how nothing that happens in this race is beyond his direct control. If you could only step back an look at yourselves you’d be shocked how much you resemble the Bush-hating conspiracy theorists of the 2004 election.

Davidson had no direct control over the state party in MI. Gourley, on the other hand, does have it over his guy on credentials. Gourley should make a public prononucement that this guy gets nothing in a Gourley administration. Then we will know that he’s for real.

This is yet another example of how Paul Gourley says one thing and does another. You just can’t trust Paul Gourley.

hey buddy, davidson controls sam moore, whose mom (who thinks he’s great) chairs the small policy committee that decided to dissolve the best federation in the country. If davidson was a real man he wouldnt accept Michigans votes, and he certainly wouldnt be advocating to give them more.

#6 - How exactly does Gourley “control” DeGuire? Suppose (and I already know you Davidson partisans will never believe it) that Paul meant what he said in his public statement calling on DeGuire to withdraw his challenge. And suppose DeGuire refused. How exactly, then, could Gourley control what DeGuire does? Gourley could denounce DeGuire all he wants to, but if DeGuire wants to do this, there’s no “hard power” that Gourley could use to stop him.

#9, very simple. Gourley can come out and say that he will personally garuntee that DeGuire has no home in a Gourley administration because he does not share the same values that Gourley does. If Gourley really feels that all states should vote then DeGuire is doing a massive departure from Gourley’s beliefs. Gourley should put his money where his mouth is and let everyone know that there is no home in a Gourley administration for people who want to disenfranchise states.

Give me a break. Everyone knows that Adam Deguire is a close personal friend of Paul Gourley. He was a field rep for the CRNC last election cycle, he only won his spot on the Credentials Committee because he had Paul’s enthusiastic support, and he has already been promised an appointed position in the Gourley administration! Deguire isn’t a rogue supporter, he’s a campaign insider. This isn’t hard to understand. It boils down to deception, self-interest, and patronage. It’s undeniable that Gourley’s fingerprints are all over it. What a crook!

When Sarah Floerke disenfranchised the delegates in Texas her excuse was “we have to respect the constitution.” It will be interesting to see if she’ll do the same this time. . .

Well, if Gourley goes ahead and gives him a ticket spot #11, then I’ll buy your take on this issue. However, there are a lot more Gourley supporters than there are ticket spots or jobs at the national office. The only way that threat would have bite is if Gourley had already promised him a ticket spot or an office job. Otherwise, there’d be no objective differnce for DeGuire.

#12 - Apparently you’ve never had any disagreements with or been knifed in the back by anyone you’re closely associated with.

Bill Frist was National Republican Senatorial Committee chairman during the cycle when Lindsay Graham was elected to the Senate. Graham “won his spot” in part because he had Frist’s “enthusiastic support” (and a whole lot of NRSC cash). You wouldn’t then go and say that Frist secretly wanted Graham to surrender to the Dems on the filibuster issue.

Gourley just put out one of the dumbest press releases I’ve ever seen. First he whitewashes the fundraising scandals by focusing on “RDI did everything don’t look at me,” and now he whitewashes this lunacy on the grounds that…

“Adam DeGuire, the state chair of Arizona and a member of the credentials committee, recently informed me that he had officially challenged the voting credentials of 17 states that did not submit credential information. Adam made it clear to me that his reasons for challenging these votes were rooted in his respect for the CRNC Constitution”

    Paul Gourley, what a joke.

    What a joke

I’m not talking about just a ticket spot. Gourley should call upon DeGuire to resing from the credentials committee and he should make a public statement that DeGuire gets no position in a Gourley administration, elected or appointed. If he does those simple things then he might be serious, otherwise it’s just more Gourley lies.

#18 - Basically the only options Gourley would have to influence DeGuire are negative actions (that is NOT doing something, like hiring him for a CRNC job). You assume that DeGuire wants a job at the national office. If he doesn’t have any interest in a such a job(and let’s be honest there are a lot better ways to advance one’s career than being a low-paid CRNC grunt) then there’s nothing Gourley can do to force him to change his mind other than sticking out his tounge at him and saying “well you’re not my friend anymore.”

Gourley could call for DeGuire’s resignation from the credentials committee. Hell, he can call for his resignation as AZ state chairman. This would have about the same effect as the Dems calling for President Bush’s resignation after the Iraq War. The fact is there is no way to force DeGuire to change his mind. Gourley’s obviously trying to persuade him to calm down (which is an available option), but threatening him with stuff he can’t really back up would most likely only build up DeGuire’s resolve.

Manny Espinoza arranged for DeGuire to be the Minority Outreach Director for Paul, as a condition for his support and delivering Arizona’s votes. This was general knowledge in February. In addition Paul actively campaigned for DeGuire to take Davidson’s seat on the Credentials Committee.

He did this over another candidate who has actively supported every state’s right to vote. How Paul could say that he had nothing to do with this is completely irresponsible. This is evidence of his weak leadership skills.

These 17 states have thousands of dedicated College Republicans who helped re-elect George W. Bush and advance conservative principles that we all cherish at every level. They’ve fought the left on their campuses and have helped sign up new Republicans, get up at 6:00 in the morning to do sign blitzes, door-to-door work. They are great members of our cause. These are the people who Adam Deguire wants to take votes from.

Any delegate who votes against these 17 states is voting to run the College Republicans like a beer party at a college fraternity.

How many College Republicans are we talking about here? 40,000? 50,000?

I agree that all the states should get their two votes. I just object the black helicopter-style conspiracy mongering that this is all a Gourley set-up and that Gourley can exert real power to do anything about this. DeGuire’s obviously that guy in any organization (be CRs, student government, what have you) who fetishizes the rules and demands that they be followed to a “T” no matter what the consequences.

I’ll restate that I think all the states should get their two votes. But let’s also think about what would happen if the shoe was on the other foot. Imagine a situation if, say, more Gourley states than Davidson states didn’t turn in their credentials. Further imagine that before the parliamentarian’s ruling Gourley was ahead in annouced votes and afterward Davidson had a 1-vote lead. I would expect, based on the tenor of comments on this blog, that the majority Davidson supporters would make the same argument DeGuire is making now since they seem driven as mad by Gourley hatred as the Democrats were by Bush hatred.

(BTW, I don’t mean to say that all Davidson supporters would be mindless partisan hacks, especially since this exchange has been civil for the most part, but I call ‘em like I see ‘em.)

Sam Moore was in contact with the Davidson campaign, he was also a member of the Michigan Republican State Committee, whose chairman removed the elected MI Federation chair and placed Sam in control as chair. Sam is not planning on holding an election either. Will MI ever have a democracy?

Moron # 25 - Davidson wouldn’t move to disenfranchise states. End of story. Black helicopters? Gourley spent a weekend with DeGuire - just two weeks ago. He supported this guy, who is trying to toss legitimate federations (the argument that they don’t exist because they didn’t turn in this paperwork is bunk), over another who came out in strong support of the states. He is on the credentials committee because Gourley wanted to stack it with supporters.
Moron #26 - The irony that you quoted Plato means you obviously have no grasp of Greek philosophy. Try reading it (instead of the back flap or other synopses) before quoting it.

If Gourley wants help bastardizing the Credentials Committee he might want to enlist the help of Davidson’s ticket-mate Sarah Floerke; she has a long history of being great at manipulating that specific committee. And denying people votes in general.

#27 - How easily you prove my point. Davidson’s supporters are completely blinded by their hatred of Gourley. “St. Michael” can do no wrong in their eyes. End of story? Who do you think you are, official CRNC election referee John Plecnik?

End of story - there is nothing that Michael has done that would evidence he would go against 17 states. Have you talked to him about it? Doubtful. If you had, you would know what he would do about this. He wants to win with the full board represented.

That’s cute. We accept everything Davidson says at face value but everything Gourley says must be a lie. You wouldn’t accept it if Gourley told you to your face he wants all states to have their two vote. The fact is, Gourley has said repeatedly ever since this issue arose that all the states should get their two votes.

dude, the reason people dont believe Gourley is because a number of his prominent surrogates are advocating for disenfranchisement. it would take one call from Paul to get them to change their stance.

in reality though, we all realize this for the political strategy that it is. come out publicly against it, while your surrogates keep pushing the issue. swift boat vets for truth and president bush embodied this perfectly. of course, paul gourley has a hell of a lot more control over his surrogates than bush did with the swift boat vets.

Actually, when Gourley “first heard” about Burke Balch’s letter (using the constitution to ignore thousands of CRs rightful place in the organization), and one of the state chairmen who would be affected called him about it, he was not in favor of every state getting two votes. He actually said “sorry,” but made no attempt to help until he realized the political fallout from this.
That is why I don’t believe what he says on the issue: he’s trying to have it both ways.

Actually people don’t believe Gourley because he’s lied about the fundraising scandal. That was the real hit to his credibility that started the snowball effect of people thinking he’s a liar. I like the idea of Gourley calling for DeGuire’s resignation from the credentials committee and committing to not have him in his administration as an elected or appointed officer (this includes minority outreach director). Let Gourley put his votes where his mouth is.
