China uses front company to steal Navy Technology

Thursday, July 21st, 2005

Continuing the discussion from the earlier post, I found this report on how China used a front company in the US to steal the Navy’s Aegis technology. This is one of the most advanced navel weapons systems in the world which allows a warship to track multiple targets simultaneously, missiles in particular. The report explained it this way, “U.S. intelligence officials say China stole the technology for the Aegis battle management system by setting up a front company in the United States that became a subcontractor for the Aegis system manufacturer.” The report also said that “The Chinese are building a deep-water navy able to project power, especially against the United States.” Does this bother anyone else besides me? Now I think we should engage with China, but let’s be smart about it and do it with the understanding that China has alternative motives in some cases.
