Check out the list and help out Steve Urquhart (a long term blogger) out in Utah take down Orrin Hatch!

What is Going On In SC?

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

I just stumbled across this story and was wondering if any of our South Carolina area readers could fill us in on what’s going on. I had always heard Sanford was the very best we had as far as sticking to principles. Now I think the key to this is big business owners. Not much mention of small businesses, which tend to be more free market oriented. It seems the business leaders are upset that Huckabee isn’t their schill and giving them special favors and protection like they are used to. If this really is the case then he is the ideal candidate, one who will not only stand up to liberals but to the big businesses who want us to pay for their projects with special tax exemptions, eminent domain, etc. This is just my read on the story though, if anyone has information please fill us in. Story below the fold.

Huckabee In NH

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

According to an unabashedly pro-Huckabee website, Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (ironically also from Hope, AR) is actually doing two events in NH this weekend and obviously is interested in running for President. Romney cancelled for an event at the last minute and now Huckabee is filling in for him. Now on the surface Huckabee seems like an ideal candidate: affable, seemingly conservative, Governor (ok he’s from Arkansas, but still…). Yet I see two major chinks in his armor.

1. He raised taxes… I mean come on this has almost got to be DOA in a GOP Primary.
2. He supported Rockefeller for Governor before he pulled out due to cancer. According to several Arkansas blogs, Win Rockefeller and his wife once hosted a Planned Parenthood fundraiser in their house… ‘nuf said.

I know that we have some loyal Huckabee readers out there, so convince me I am wrong and this should be my horse for ‘08.

RINOs In Charge

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

The latest poll on Patrick Ruffini’s blog shows a very disturbing trend, the absolute dominance of RINOs (even among the internet activist crowd) and the dirth of movement conservatives in the presidential race.

Over 15,000 votes have been cast in the election and Rudy Giulani garners over 30% of the vote. This is a man who has more personal liabilities than almost anyone, is rapidly pro-abortion, and pro-gay marriage. I know some in the religious right have signaled their willingness to let these faults slide, but if you want to find a way to surpress Republican turnout across the country, Jean Schmidt style, this would be a good one. George Allen is next with 20% of the vote, he is fairly solid but also has weird life credentials. He ran as pro-ambiguous though has a great voting record.

The next pack Gingrich, Romney, and McCain are all either members of the power-wing of the party (Gingrich, Romney) or the media whore wing (McCain) and sadly enough McCain probably has the most solid credentials of these three. I cannot for the life of me understand Gingrich’s growing popularity. Does anyone REMEMBER him as Speaker? The conservatives tried to have a coup to toss him out might have worked has Armey not ratted them out.

On the horizon there are really only three movement conservatives with a real possibility to be in the race: Gov. Sanford, Rep. Pence, and Rep. Tancredo. Sanford pretty much says he’s out, Pence is less direct but as a house member lacks a whole lot of standing, and Tancredo says he’s in but has baggage that will make it hard for him to win.

All, in all, ‘08 looks bleak.
