Buchanan on Miers

Written by Mike on October 6th, 2005

Trust me, Bush is saying. Trust but verify, they should reply.

For as of today there is no evidence Harriet Miers possesses the judicial philosophy, strength of intellect, firmness of conviction or deep understanding of the gravity of the matters on which her vote would be decisive to be confirmed as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

If she does not exhibit these qualities in testimony before the Judiciary Committee, Harriet Miers should be rejected.

You said it Pat.

Harriet Miers has been endorsed by Right to Life.

Right to Life: “President Bush has an excellent record of appointing judges who recognize the proper role of the courts, which is to interpret the law according to its actual text, and not to legislate from the bench,” said David N. O’Steen, executive director of the National Right to Life Committee. “We believe that Harriet Miers is another nominee who will abide by the text and history of the Constitution.”

You guys have deliberately made no mention of it on SaveTheGOP.

If you guys don’t be careful, this blog will end up like the right-wing version of DailyKos: prohibiting their readers from seeing all sides of the story.

…and Andrew Card, Dick Cheney, Scooter Libby, Karl Rove, do you seriously think that Roe v. Wade was not the very first thing they discussed?

Even for the paranoid, Andrew Card should be all the evidence you need that George W. Bush is a chief pro-lifer.

Again, so the fuck what? I care about her ability to properly understand the Constitution. I have nothing as of yet other than the president’s word. I am glad that is enough for you, it is not enough for me.

    “What goes around comes around.”

Oh no! Seriously, grow up. If you think any of us have a fear of being on the “outside looking in” then you have confused us with yourself. Our influence comes not from our connections (though we have them) but from the power of our logic and reasoning. There is nothing worse than a Party Man Joe. Don’t be one, you have a career without them.

Brownback is going to vote against Miers, even after the President pleaded with him directly, according to Today’s LA Times. He and Coburn will likely be a pain in Miers ass…Pluse, historically nominees always pass out of the Judiciary Committee, even if a majority oppose their confirmation (this was the case with Bork and Thomas).

In addition, today’s Hotline has Miers saying that she “wouldn’t belong to the Federalist Society” because it is a politically charged group. How can they back somebody who had trashed their own group. I’m hardly as conservative as most of you all, but something just says she’s not going to be competent on the Court.
