Can We Do Something Now?

Written by Mike on December 5th, 2005

Iran is only months away from having the bomb. Of course the UN is against any “non-diplomatic means” to resolve this problem. Talking has obviously failed, but my greatest fear is that we have no plan in place to strike a fierce and disabling blow at Iran. I am looking north towards DC for leadership . . .

So scary! Haaretz reported on this as well. This is a big topic in Israeli politics because people are calling on Sharon to take military action to eliminate Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Unfortunately, it appears that he is also stalling and depending on the diplomatic route. You just don’t talk to some leaders. This is especially true with Iran considering that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has actually announced that Israel should be “wiped off the map.”

I’m not sure a military solution would work, Iran has learned from the 1980 bombing of saddam’s reactor to spread the program out through a spread out network of facilities. Too succesfully atack all of these the US would have to take out the Iranian airforce, radar, ant aircraft guns. Not to mention Iran would make life in Iraq a living hell by having the shiite’s of mehdi army which if funded by them start attacking the US troops in the south again. Solution we need to get Russia and china agreeing of anctions. Regime change has to be done by the iranian people, last time we pulled a regime change in Iran, we put in the shah which wasn’t a great idea.

“Solution we need to get Russia and china agreeing of anctions.”

Will never happen, China has massive oil/gas contracts with Iran and Russia is Iran’s biggest arms suppier (not to mention the ones building the recators for them). The Chinese and Russians will do anything for a buck.

This is not an unexpected development, to attack these sites we should have had people on the group providing human int. for years now, but the CIA is about as weak as it has ever been despite efforts at reform. We have pussy-footed around and now are officially screwed.

Just fyi, we didn’t actually put the Shah in power. We may have had a hand in keeping him in power but we didn’t place him there. Furthermore, I don’t think it’s likely that the Iranian people will force regime change. Iran’s revolution happened a little over 20 years ago. My thought is that they aren’t exactly looking for another one to happen any time soon. The biggest fear I have with Iran’s nuclear capabilities is the chaos it can cause for the region and for Israel.

we gave the shah power, Muhammed Mussadegh was the popular leader of the country but he wanted to nationalize the oilfields, and this pissed of teh british and US goverment who covertly had him taken down and firmly restored power to the shah. I agree with mike that we are now officially screwed and Iran will have nukes very soon, only hope is that deterent with our nukes and isreali nukes keep them i check. The iranian people aren’t looking for another islamic revolutoin but rahter democrtizaiton from within the system to the point that the current sytem becomes unrecognizable.
