Ann Coulter Comes To GW
Written by Gary on February 8th, 2006This Friday night, Ann Coulter will speak at The George Washington University. I encourage all Savethegop.com readers and staff to attend the event. The feminists have already plastered campus with anti-Coulter propaganda, and are planning (as predicted) a rally. We will need as many conservatives as possible to attend the event. Surely many of you will be in town for CPAC.
The following is an article I wrote for the school newspaper defending my decision to host Ms. Coulter.
Liberals beware! Your worst nightmare is near. No, I’m not talking about a visit from George W. Bush. But, like the president, her mere presence is enough to leave some leftists totally unhinged - and even elicit some flying pies! Her name is Ann Coulter and next Friday night she comes to the George Washington campus. For the College Republicans, it will be the pinnacle of an outstanding, historic year. More importantly, Ms. Coulter’s address will remind the student body that conservative activism continues to prosper – in full force - at this ostensibly “progressive” university.
Coulter has long inspired the wrath of liberal Democrats; you know, the same people who incessantly tout the importance of diversity and sensitivity. Apparently such feel-good tolerance only applies for like-minded liberals. Coulter’s campus lectures routinely engender severe leftist hostilities. This harsh reality has forced her to hire a private bodyguard and meticulously plan her appearances.
But Ann Coulter is more than just a college campus celebrity. At the national level, she embodies the modern-day conservative movement. Last week, on the floor of the United States Senate, Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) highlighted her steady support for Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito as a compelling reason to oppose the judge’s confirmation. Who knew that Presidential wannabe John Kerry would actually take political cues from a supposedly “faaar-right” ideologue? Conversely, her criticism of Chief Justice John Roberts caused many on the Right to question the nominee’s conservative credentials. These episodes illustrate Coulter’s power to confer legitimacy on Republican political figures. It is clear that she has far surpassed her role as a commentator and has now become a dominant political leader whose opinions demand the attention of a national audience.
Predictably, the Left has responded with baseless invective, frequently labeling her a “polemicist,” an “extremist,” and a “fascist,” and those are just the uncensored attacks! She was also the subject of a book by liberal hatchet-man Al Franken, or, perhaps more accurately, his Harvard researchers. Franken tried to convince hapless readers that Coulter is really – you guessed it - a liar.
For all the liberal fussing about Coulter’s biting witticisms and merciless humor, it is her sharp intellect and unmatched insight that has earned her legions of loyal followers. She speaks the unvarnished truth. And, to echo Jack Nicholson, sometimes the Left just can’t “handle” it. Let me be clear: Coulter is aggressive and unforgiving, and gives as good as she receives; but it is her ability to expose the real agenda of the Democratic Party and effortlessly dispel its hackneyed mantras that drives her persuasive appeal.
Many conservative commentators know and propagate the truth. Coulter, however, is the complete package. She shatters the traditional stereotypes commonly associated with conservatives: namely that we are all fat, cold, disagreeable, balding white guys (think Dick Cheney). Those days are over. A new generation of young women and men is gravitating to the Republican Party, following in the bold footsteps of Ann Coulter. In the language of pop culture, she has made conservatism “cool.”
This rock star-like stature is on full display every year at the Conservative Political Action Conference (held annually in Washington, DC), where one cannot help but marvel at the preponderance of young college and high school students in attendance. When Coulter addresses the conferees, the spacious ballroom overflows with young conservatives. Many are forced to watch her on an outside television monitor. Her book signings resemble the ticket lines for a Star Wars premiere. Yes, she is that big.
The term “young conservative” used to be an oxymoron, but largely because of Coulter’s influence, many Generation Xers have become committed conservative activists. This has had devastating consequences for the modern Left. Their monopoly on university campuses and tight grip on America’s college youth is rapidly weakening. As we see here on the George Washington campus, conservatives now have a commanding voice and the concomitant power to profoundly shape the university’s intellectual climate. We owe this to Ann Coulter.
On February 10th, the College Republicans will remind the nation why we are truly the College Republican National Committee’s “Best Chapter of the Year,” and why we are proud to host our movement’s best – and fiercest – leader.

I would watch out with anne, while she is good at some issues, she does have a way of getting bigoted especially towards muslims. and Gw does have a large muslim community, socollege republicans should make it clear that it does not endorce her belief that all muslims are potential terrorist, or that we should invade all islamic countries kill their leaders and convert everyone to christianity.
