NRSC Can’t Pull Weight, Leadership Steps In

Written by Stephen on February 8th, 2006

It’s bad enough that the NRSC is censoring comments on their website. Now it can’t pull its own weight, and is having the GOP leadership push senators to contribute 10 times what they ordinarily do.

Senate Republican leaders yesterday urged GOP senators to meet ambitious individual fundraising goals to help close the fundraising disparity with their Democratic counterparts.

Several lawmakers said the individual fundraising goals are significantly higher than they’ve been asked to meet in past election cycles. The request also underscores how nervous Republicans are less than nine months before the midterm elections.

Participants at yesterday’s meeting at the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) said that rank-and-file senators had been asked to raise about $100,000 for the NRSC and that chairmen had been asked to raise about $150,000.

Traditionally, rank-and-file Republicans have been asked to contribute modest amounts to the NRSC. They’ve typically been asked to contribute $15,000 from their campaign accounts.

Pathetic.

Never to fear, handing out miniature plastic toolboxes with little hammers and such inside will solve all of the NRSC’s problems (see the Hill article). Oh wait, except for the shameful ads against a conservative Republican who dares to challenge an incumbent RINO in a primary.

What are primaries good for if the national party simply panders to incumbents? How can anyone listen to us talk about all these “reforms” we want (lobbying, earmarks, budget…) if we support the Senator-for-life mantra, which is a huge contributor to these problems?

The Gop is the party of reform? You kidding me bro? It’s about time for some Saving… (shameless plug).
