The Condinistas

Written by Mark Harris on February 9th, 2006

I interviewed the National Chairwoman of “Americans for Dr. Rice”. She is heading up the Draft Condi movement. She dipped and dodged on the life issue, as you can hear on the audio link below. She again was focusing on the Bush-esqe point that “Condi can win” and the inability for “extremists” to win.

The problem is that they are rallying around the persona of Condi not actually issues that are going to move our effort forward. I’ve been impressed by their presence hear and all the Condi buttons, but when push comes to shove I don’t think this party is going to nominate a pro-choice, Bush linked candidate. What say you, Save The GOP readers?

So many Republicans and Pro-lifers don’t know about Condi’s abortion stand. Ideally, we could convert her. Secondarily, I think that we could settle for a “pro-choice” Condi in a GENERAL election if and only if she gave us a promise to nominate judges in the mold of Thomas and Scalia. The obvious problem here is whether we are to trust an openly pro-abortion-on-demand person to nominate a judge that will overturn Roe v. Wade. That’s a big problem with John McCain as well. Although he’s voted pro-life, he has definitely said some things that make it seem like he would not make overturning Roe a priority.

Condi also calls ‘islam’ a religion of peace.
George Allen is pro-life to my knowledge and even if he isnt at least he supports conservative judges and has a pro-life voting record.

Condi Rice makes a good Cabinet Secretary, but I am not sure she would make a good President. I’m not saying she shouldn’t be on the ticket, but I am nowhere near sold on her being the spokeperson of the GOP. There is still plenty of time to change my mind, and if Condi made her stances known on the issues that would do it.

As of right now, I am leaning toward supporting George Allen for President.

Plus she is not married. Condi would be a good running mate, but not for the top job.
