Liberal Churches Abort Themseleves

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

NationalReview:

Early in January, just in time for the 33rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Episcopal Church reaffirmed its membership in an abortion-rights coalition.

During its January 9-12 meeting in Des Moines, the executive council of the Episcopal Church voted to clarify and affirm its membership in the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC).

RCRC, formerly known as the Religious Coalition for Abortion Rights, was founded in 1973 with funding from the Playboy Foundation (and later from the Ford Foundation), to organize religious supporters of legalized abortion. RCRC is absolutist in its rejection of any restriction on abortion, defending the legality of partial-birth abortion, and opposing parental-notification laws, as well as other sensible restrictions.

Swann

Lynn Swann, former Pittsburgh Steeler great captured the endorsement of the Republican State Committee this weekend which makes him the odds-on favorite to win the Republican nomination to face Ed Rendell this fall. Jim Panyard, former Chairman of the Pennsylvania Manufacturing Association (PMA), is still running and will likely make the ballot.

Recent polls have shown Rendell and Swann running neck and neck, this could be the Gubernatorial race to watch this fall.

Talent Wusses Out

From the corner:

DON’T CLONE THIS MOVE [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

I linked to a wire story earlier in the week that seemed to warn MO Senator Jim Talent he would not be reelected if he pushed for a ban on human cloning.

I encouraged any pro-life billionaires out there to make him a project this year–some election-year encouragement.

Today in the Senate, though, word is Talent has withdrawn his name from the Human Cloning Prohibition Act (S. 658).
