Tax-hiking Republicans (or the need for state involvement)

Written by Stephen on February 18th, 2006

If you ever wish to become a cynic about the Republican party, come live in Virginia. Two years ago, Gov. Mark Warner moved to hike taxes. The Senate GOP one-upped him, and the House GOP was rolled. You can get that story here.

Now we’re staring down the barrel of another tax-hike led by the Senate GOP. The Times-Dispatch, Virginia’s major conservative paper, eviscerates the plan in 294 words here.

So why am I writing this? I could rail against the GOP squishes, but others do it better. Rather, I want to point out the importance of engaging state and local government in the fight for conservative principles. While its easier to see when the federals take away freedom, the states will still take it bit by bit. This under the radar encroachments are just as dangerous and also need to be stopped.

Here’s one person working to stop them, and we ought to support him.

This blog should have something set up so people can give regular amounts to the campaign, or direct people to something of that sort. Otherwise, we have no idea how things are going and it’s harder to create the bandwagon effect that will encourage more people to give.

Also, if you are a regular reader, stop being lazy and donate even a token amount.
