I spoke to Steve Smith’s campaign manager David Rogers on the phone yesterday and he informs that the Smith campaign is looking at the prospects of a statewide recount. Due to the late date that absentee ballots were sent out this year, absentee votes won’t be counted until March 18. A decision likely won’t be made until that point. The Smith campaign has until March 24 to ask for a recount, but the absentee votes could very well sway things in Willett’s direction since they were most likely cast before the plagiarism scandal broke. (Seeming to confirm the potential trend is the fact that Smith tended to do better on election day than he did in early voting.)
