Allen is anti-Roe
Written by Stephen on April 20th, 2006I won’t pretend to know if Allen truly believes abortion is wrong, and if he’d vote to make it illegal in all cases (with the double effect exception.) Certainly there are those of us who have doubts. However, I would say this much: he is definitely anti-Roe.
There is a difference, as difficult as it is to remember in these days of soundbites. One can think Roe was poorly decided without supporting a ban on abortion. You can disagree with it because its an abrogation of states’ rights, or its poor logic on which to justify a federal right to abortion. Regardless, Allen is on record against it.
I’ll also have a post with some large personal news in the future, so please check back to the blog often.

I’m not going to base my decision on whom to support on ONE VOTE 14 years ago. There have been countless votes, and dumping Allen for a single vote a very long time ago doesn’t make sense to me. He has a strong pro-life record as governor and senator. Heck, Ronald Reagan even signed a strong pro-choice bill as California Governor. George Bush (Sr.) ran for President as a pro-choicer in 1980. Allen has never been “pro-choice”. He IS pro-life and has been strong on getting conservative judges confirmed.
I’m going to keep saying it…. it is between Allen and McCain. To me, McCain is the one who always tries to broker deals with the liberal Dems…. see the Gang of 14. Allen is the clear choice.

Allen was inteviewed this weekend by the WSJ and he wouldn’t even answer the question of whether of not he wants Roe to be overturned. Wouldn’t even say a word. He said once that he wants it to be altered to allow states to decide the issue. Fair enough, but if he doesn’t want Roe overturned at least have the balls to say it publicly. I would vote for Allen for president if I thought that I could trust him. What other issues is he hazy on? I don’t know.
