It’s Blackwell v. Strickland

Written by Sam on May 3rd, 2006

Ken Blackwell pulled it off last night against his RINO challenger in the Republican primary for Ohio governor. While Blackwell has jumped his first hurdle, he now has a mountain to start climbing. The scandal surrounding current RINO governor, Bob Taft, as well as dissatisfaction with a liberal Republican state legislature has left a black eye on the Ohio GOP. Unfortunately, Blackwell will be guilty by association, but there is still plenty of time between now and November. The last poll had Blackwell trailing his now official Democratic opponent by 10 points.

Blackwell will have some problems ahead for him, mostly from the Ohio GOP and the main newspapers in the state. Petro was endorsed by most major newspapers as the better candidate and the Ohio GOP asked Blackwell to drop out of the race. Coupled with the smear campaign put on by Petro’s campaign and the lack of support I think he’ll have a tough time getting a headwind.
