That would be a good platform for Newt to run on in 2008 for Pres.

Is English not the official language of government right now? I’m confused.

Whatever it is, the language of the government is certainly not English. Bureaucracy-ese, perhaps?

Voter ID cards would dramatically increase the bureacracy and the likelihood of legit voters being denied the franchise because of database screwups. The way to fight voter fraud is to enforce the laws we have on the books today.

Being from a state that is a minority-majority state, we have this debate often about whether New Mexico or the United States as a whole should make English the “official language”.
David asked “Is English not the official language of government right now? I’m confused.” It is not the official language, though it is widely seen as such. If English was the official language, information would not have to be distributed in 4 or 5 different languages. People would have to learn English or do without.
Adopting an official language would save tax payers a ton of money. Less amounts of paper being printed explaining everything in hundreds of languages would save the trees. I’m surprised the liberals aren’t supporting this!
