Moral Equivalency
Written by Benaiah on October 2nd, 2006I think more needs to be said about former Congressman and sexual predator Mark Foley. Look for many on the right to traipse out arguments of moral equivalency. Now is not the time to argue about blue dresses or Barney Frank’s lover running a gay prostitution ring out of their home. The only thing close to Foley’s actions is the accused rape of Juanita Broderick by then governor Bill Clinton. A charge President Clinton has yet to answer. But nothing compares to this. You do not excuse one bad behavior with another.
Foley is a sexual predator and should be prosecuted. Also at fault is the House Leadership who knew about Foley’s shenanigans and did nothing but tell him to stop. The GOP leadership is eating good old-fashioned oh s&*t burgers right about now and they deserve it.
I ‘m disgusted.

The House leadership should be charged for not alerting the authorities about Foley’s actions especially if they continued after they found out. It shows a lack of values among our elected leadership and they should be removed and replaced with real conservatives with real American values.

Except that it seems the GOP did not know about the x-rated IMs, just as the press did not know about them. There’s no evidence of any cover up here.

This man has been in congress since ‘94 and it was well known that he was a predator for far longer than this I am sure. This scandal is only the tip of the iceberg, he didn’t start lusting after 16 year old boys in 2005.

Not that it makes things any better, but the media has distorted the word “Pedophilia.” Pedophilia is the primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children.
Ephebophilia is the primary or exclusive sexual attraction to post-pubescent adolescents. While the term is still debated by pychologists, as well as whether the behavior is normal, it is generally not regarded as pathological.
I don’t consider Mark Foley’s inexcusable behavior as pedophilia but another case of old-fashioned homosexuality.
When Foley was considered a forefront candidate for U.S. Senate in 2003 stories leaked that he was gay. Foley, who is unmarried, denied the allegations, but said that his sexual orientation was nobody’s business.
It’s funny how the press shields the homosexual lobby by labeling Foley a pedophile.

So we have the House Republican leadership who told Foley to knock it off and hoped nobody would find out, and we have the Democrats who knew about this yet suppressed the information until a time when it would be politically helpful to trot it out (i.e. right before an election).
Great.
