This sums up last night

Mike Pence:

Some will argue that we lost our majority because of scandals at home and challenges abroad. I say, we did not just lose our majority, we lost our way.

While the scandals of the 109th Congress harmed our cause, the greatest scandal in Washington, D.C. is runaway federal spending.

After 1994, we were a majority committed to balanced federal budgets, entitlement reform and advancing the principles of limited government. In recent years, our majority voted to expand the federal government’s role in education, entitlements and pursued spending policies that created record deficits and national debt.

This was not in the Contract with America and Republican voters said, ‘enough is enough.

Our opponents will say that the American people rejected our Republican vision. I say the American people didn’t quit on the Contract with America, we did. And in so doing, we severed the bonds of trust between our party and millions of our most ardent supporters.

As the 110th Congress convenes next year, Republicans must cordially accept defeat and dedicate ourselves to advancing our cause as the loyal opposition knowing that the only way to retake our natural, governing majority, is to renew our commitment to limited government, national defense, traditional values and reform.

Now will the rest of the GOP wake up and get back to its core principles? One can only hope.

I love Pence. He managed to articulate everything I’ve been feeling in that statement.

Some people here think that Republicans sold out their principles. I disagree but here’s what I will say: If you want Republicans in power who have sold out the conservative movement, look to John McCain.

Joe, The size of government has doubled in the past 12 year. Discretional spending (earmarks) have doubled in the last 6 years. So remind me again what core principals the GOP has not abandoned?

I am all for fighting for our guys. But, there has to be a limit.

Yes I agree that government is growing much too quickly, and that’s why President Bush wanted strict limits on spending — limits that the solid-Republican House held itself to mostly.

Remember that government shrunk under Ronald Reagan. For us to say that we must continue to shrink government every single year.. it’s dangerous to the country. We must have our country’s best interests at heart, and President Bush wanted NCLB and a Medicare bill.

“. . . and that’s why President Bush wanted strict limits on spending — limits that the solid-Republican House held itself to mostly.”

What the hell are talking about!? Bush has done nothing to restrict spending, not vetoing a single bill that enlarged the government over the last 6 years. The House has “mostly” held itself to restrictions? What kind of bullshit is this? You are insulting our intelligence, so stop it. Non-discretionary spending increased 9% in the 109th congress. 9%! That is the highest one year jump since 1992!

“For us to say that we must continue to shrink government every single year.. it’s dangerous to the country.”

How exactly is shrinking government dangerous? You expect anyone to take you seriously do you?

“We must have our country’s best interests at heart, and President Bush wanted NCLB and a Medicare bill.”

How is the NCLB and Medicare bill in the best interest of our country? Only if you are liberal are these things in the best interest of our country and of course Bush is a liberal. This is why the GOP lost and you still don’t get it. You think NCLB and the Medicare bills were “the right thing to do” and that is a crock of donkey piss you can’t sell around here.
