Pence Drops Immigration Reform

Written by Mike on November 14th, 2006

Mike Pence, who supported some form of amnesty this last year, has reversed his position and now says that he would support Jon Kyl’s planned filibuster of such an amnesty plan in the Senate.

This was the one weak plank in Pence’s platform for leadership and now that it is no longer an issue I think you’ll see even more conservatives flock to his banner.

If Tanc supports him, I support him.

So what you’re saying is that Pence is a “flip-flopper”. He believed that something was right at the time but changed his views when the political situation changed. Didn’t most Americans decide that they’d rather have someone who’ll “stay the course” than a flip-flopper?

It’s not amnesty. You’re misrepresenting the President’s platform. This is a Democratic tactic and it will fail for you just as it has failed for them, time and time again.

How could he say that pence ever supported amnisty this is the kind of bs retoric that rips this party apart and put the democrats in power.

Um, Joe, watch the Democrats pass Bush’s Amnesty bill. Then how will it be a “Democratic tactic”?

Any bill at all that gives illegal immigrants the opportunity to live and work in this country without first being deported is amnesty, end of story. Most of the coutry seems to understand this, what is so difficult about it?

I am a huge Mike Pence fan, his proposal this last summer wasn’t as bad as President Bush’s but it included a guest worker program. We cannot have a guest worker program until there is some sort of enforcement mechanism to make sure these people return home when they are done working. Even more importantly, the border with Mexico must be sealed off to illegal immigration BEFORE the guest worker program goes into effect.

You would think these are unreasonable requests the way people complain about it.

hmm, looks like he is just trying to pick up the support of a few more conservatives. It doesn’t seem like a legitimate conversion if you ask me. He is playing politics instead of going with his convictions.

He is still the best candidate though.

It is possible that Pence has simply realized he was wrong.

But when John Kerry does it, he’s a “flip flopper” who “can’t be trusted”.

“But when John Kerry does it, he’s a “flip flopper” who “can’t be trusted”.”

The sheer number of issues and the dramatic shifts in opinion were the reason Kerry was (rightly) tagged a “flip flopper”. Mike Pence has changed his mind about one aspect of a single issue. This is hardly on the same scale as John Kerry who told whatever group he was standing in front of whatever they wanted to hear.
