Delay talks a fantastic game. So does Newt. When you read what they write or listen them speak you can’t help but agree with them and get excited.
Then once they are in power, with a majority in both houses of congress, with a Republican president to sign the bills for the last four years . . . nothing happens.
It leaves you asking yourself, “Do these guys really care about the same things I do or are they just blowing smoke at me?”
I can’t help but conclude that pork, power and the prestige of DC are what really matters to Delay and Newt. Now that they have nothing, they can talk a good game again, but we know the truth.
I would not neccesarily lump Newt in the same category as DeLay. The coup that overthru Newt on the heals of the Government shutdown brought on the current crop of Republicans.
Newt is a politico but not on the scale of DeLay

If you read Joe Scarbourgh’s book or Tom Coburn’s book you get a very negative impression of the role Newt played in destroying the conservative momentum in Congress.
DC changed him, now that he is back out of DC and has nothing to lose he can act like the real conservative he is, but give him some power and something to lose and he will be right back on the wrong side of the issues.
“Most men can overcome adversity, if you want to truly test a man’s character then give him power.”
I think ole Honest Abe said that. Newt, Dick Armey, and Delay all failed the test.

If you want to truly trust Lincoln’s character, than see what he did as president: refused to meet with disgruntled Confederates to discuss what the problems were, refused to acknowledge states’s rights, and falsely set a war based on economics on “abolition” when he was as racist as anyone else was during that time period.

That is true of most politicians. Sad but true
