U.S. forces need to reduce the predictability of their movements. To do this, generals in Baghdad should stop requiring units to report the number of patrols conducted, and instead focus on effective offensive operations. The current emphasis on gauging unit effectiveness by the quantity of patrols conducted keeps the troops too busy to conduct quality operations that offensively hunt the enemy.

Rumors are spreading that President Bush will send an additional 20,000 troops to Iraq in a desperate, final push to restore order. The plan is to secure Baghdad and convene a regional meeting of the minds.
The extent to which that [regional cooperation] will include talking to Iran and Syria is still up for debate,” said Patrick Cronin, of the International Institute for Strategic Studies. “Externally, US policy is focused on what is achievable. Some quarters believe Syria in some ways could be helpful. There are more doubts about Iran but Iran holds more cards. Some think it’s worth a try.”

I once had to do 23 shots of Baijiu at a bussiness dinner in Dezhou City in Shandong province. I hate Baijiu, but I’ll drink it if I have to. I much prefer Yanjing beer. Oh sweet necter of ye gods!
