Former Congressman Bob Barr Becomes Libertarian
Written by Sam on December 16th, 2006I can’t say that I blame him. Everything he says is spot on. We’ve seen the largest growth of government ever under the Republican Party. Personal freedoms and liberties continue to erode in this country. The last four years of complete GOP control did not reverse that, but only add to it. More people need to wake up to what the Republicans are doing and start changing the trash or more will follow in Barr’s footsteps.
Bob Barr, who served eight years as a Republican congressman before losing his seat in 2002, announced Friday that he is now a “proud, card-carrying Libertarian.” And he encouraged others to join him.
“It’s something that’s been bothering me for quite some time, the direction in which the party has been going more and more toward big government and disregard toward privacy and civil liberties,” said Barr, 58, a lawyer and consultant living in Atlanta. “In terms of where the country needs to be going to get back to our constitutional roots … I’ve come to the conclusion that the only way to do that is to work with a party that practices what it preaches, and that is the Libertarian Party.”

Barr is a Traitor.
He is a member of the ACLU and is against the war on terror and supports ‘Al Gores’ view on foreign policy. SavetheGOP must be turning Liberal if it is praising Barr.

Bigger question. Is SavetheGOP Conservative or LiberaLtarian ?
I thought we were trying to defeat the Liberal leaning libertarians out of the party that want to gut national defense, patriot act, cut and run in Iraq, gut missile defense etc and they want judges like ‘Souter’ and ‘Stevens’ on the supreme court.

I am forced to agree that if the GOP doesn’t right the ship, we’ll start seeing more defections like Bob Barr. Although the Libertarians are hardly the only viable option for conservatives. I have long felt the Constitution Party would be a viable option for displaced conservatives. However, I am loyal to the GOP (for the time being) and will try to initiate and encourage change from within.
