Rock the Vote, Johnny

Looks like we might have another Georgia GOP primary fight on our hands in 2010.

Don’t be surprised in four years if a couple significant Georgia Republicans attempt to switch roles. In 2010, Gov. Sonny Perdue (R) will be term-limited and could very well seek an open U.S. Senate seat, vacated by Sen. Johnny Isakson (R), who would run for governor, according to one GOP insider familiar with the situation.

The scenario certainly isn’t far-fetched. Even though Isakson is only in his first term in the Senate, the governorship has been in his sights for years, going back to 1990 when he lost to Zell Miller (D) 53%-46%. And Perdue has a decade’s worth of experience as a legislator in the Georgia state senate, including a stint as president pro tempore. According to the GOP source, both men would likely endorse the other in the maneuver as well.

Senator Isackson has voted as a conservative in his short time in the Senate, but he is no conservative. Governor Perdue is also being mentioned as a possible VP candidate in ‘08.

I disagree. I`m no fan of Isakson and supported Collins in the primary, but it`s votes that count, and Isakson has done quite well for us since his election. Let`s not get greedy. Shouldn`t we be more concerned with replacing G-14 traitor Lindsey Graham in `08?

Elected Republicans running against each other for state offices? Um, yeah I definitely would like to have your problems in Jersey.

Let`s not get greedy. I was supporting Collins in the primary, but that`s water under the bridge. Is Johnny Isakson my favorite Senator? No. But it`s votes that count, and Isakson has been with us since he got to the Senate. What`s more, he is likely to cast the 34th vote against overriding a Presidential veto of expansion of embryonic stem-cell research this year. I think it`d be more worthwhile to focus on ousting G-14 traitor Lindsey Graham than someone who has proved of late to be an important, albeit relatively quiet, ally.

I`m no fan of Sen. Isakson. I backed Collins in the primary. Even so, Isakson has been a reliable conservative vote since joining the Senate, and this year, will be the vote that stops an override of a Presidential veto on legislation that would expand embryonic stem-cell research. I think we`d be better off leaving him alone and instead focusing on getting rid of G-14 traitor Lindsey Graham.
