I’d say this actually makes your side look bad. We *did* “cut-and-run” from Vietnam in disgrace and, despite the Gipper’s doom and gloom, nothing bad really happened as a result. Our retreating from Vietnam had no real consequences, and communism fizzled out on its own. In retrospect, this kind of rhetoric turned out to be unsubstantiated hype of the first order.
So, I agree with Mr. Harris that we should take this video as a reminder!

Mark or Alex, please approve the comment I just made. It just lists some of the “real consequences” that US withdrawal from Indochina had.

Actually us cutting and running from Vietnam did exactly what we said it would… domino effect… as much of Asia fell to the forces of communism and prolonged the suffering and death of millions.

Mr. Raynor — You cite regional issues, which are kind of sad, but not our problem. Reagan scared people by claiming that there was some looming threat to our security. There was not.
Nice try with your reverse engineering. Reagan was 100% wrong.

There’s no excuse for it either. At least when he was president, you can blame it on his having turned into a senile, incontinent, drooling fool by that point. He at least appears to be coherent here, unlike the better part of his second term in office, where his senility was flagrantly obvious to anyone who wasn’t deaf.

Yeah, having boots on the ground with the intention to stabilize the country, and ensure that it does not fall under Communist rule, and then leaving and watching the region erupt in bloodshed, that’s not our problem. Sure.
There wasn’t a looming threat to our security? Are you really that ignorant, or do you just like to pretend that the Cold War didn’t happen? Sure, there wasn’t a threat… if you just forget about the prior 50 years to 1980.
Reagan was wrong? It what sense? Do you wish the Iron Curtain was still standing? Do you completely ignore the booming economy this country inherited from Reagan’s time in office?
I’m not expecting a response, not a mature one at least, but I just wanted to throw those out there. Try getting some class, knowledge of history, and human decency before posting more gibberish.

You both changed the subject again! Reagan claimed that there was some apocalyptic, imminent threat to the US that would result from withdrawing from Vietnam. Don’t try to reverse engineer *other* consequences into validating what Reagan said, which turned out to be 100% wrong.

Where are all these statues of Reagan, anyway? I’ve been to Eastern Europe three times, as recently as a year and a half ago, and didn’t see anything like this. I think you made it up or at least are exaggerating.

btw…..Goldwater said in ‘64 to his GOP senate buddies “look guys its clear there are two choices: either we win this war soon, like within the next year, or we start coming home and pull all our troops out.”
