If the World Were Like Wyoming

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Former Rep. Ann Robinson beamed as the governor signed the bill making the temporary removal of the sales tax on food passed last year permanent.

Bills to lift the tax had first been brought by lawmakers in the 1950s, she said, so Wednesday also marked the end of a very long process for that idea as well.

“Food is the most basic need of the people of Wyoming,” she said, “and it is not a place for collecting taxes.”

Robinson said she has been stopped several times by people she has never met before in Casper grocery stores to thank her for spearheading the grocery tax abolition effort.

Though it only means 5 cents on the dollar for a Casper grocery bill, it makes a big difference to a lot of people, she said.

“The best thing we can do for working people is keep taxes low and keep money in their pockets,” said Sen. John Barrasso, R-Casper, one of the bill’s Senate sponsors.

Tax cutting Democrats and Republicans that actually practice the concept of Reaganomics??  Who could ask for anything more?

Flip Flop Romney Dolphin

There is a dolphin walking around CPAC handing out fliers about Flip Romney. I would bet there is some clever McCain staffer behind this one.

Giuliani Leaving McCain in the Dust

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

I think I have stated before that I don’t care about these polls because we are still close to a year out from the Iowa Caucuses, but I posted this one because there seems to be a trend continuing here. Giuliani has been outpacing McCain over the past few months consistently across the board.

Of such little things, perhaps, are Presidential nominees made. According to the new TIME poll, Giuliani now leads his closest rival for the Republican nomination, Senator John McCain of Arizona, by 14 points (38% to 24%) among registered Republicans and those who are leaning toward the G.O.P. In January, a TIME poll showed McCain ahead by 4 points — a startling swing of 18 points.

The core of Giuliani’s strength is in the Northeast, where he has a 50% to 23% advantage over McCain. But even in the West, he leads McCain by 5 points. The poll, conducted for Time by Schulman, Ronca & Bucuvalas Public Affairs (SRBI), surveyed 1,144 registered voters by phone from Feb. 23-26. It has a margin of error of +/-3 percentage points.

Also of interest is the SurveyUSA home page where you can match up a Republican and Democrat candidate and see who would win the election based on their poll results. I noticed a lot of these state poll results were taken in July, so this is really more of an entertainment thing than reality, but it is cool to see that if you match up Giuliani or McCain with Hillary they beat her in a landslide in the Electoral College, carrying states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, and even New Jersey.

Not the smartest thing to do to the grassroots.  The Washington Times has it on their front page.

CPAC Begins

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Let The Blogging Begin! So far spotted a booth for Romney, Brownback, and Gilmore. The Brownback folks seem to be all over the place though they have one of the most texy heavy direct mail pieces I’ve ever seen.
