Giuliani Leaving McCain in the Dust

Of such little things, perhaps, are Presidential nominees made. According to the new TIME poll, Giuliani now leads his closest rival for the Republican nomination, Senator John McCain of Arizona, by 14 points (38% to 24%) among registered Republicans and those who are leaning toward the G.O.P. In January, a TIME poll showed McCain ahead by 4 points — a startling swing of 18 points.
The core of Giuliani’s strength is in the Northeast, where he has a 50% to 23% advantage over McCain. But even in the West, he leads McCain by 5 points. The poll, conducted for Time by Schulman, Ronca & Bucuvalas Public Affairs (SRBI), surveyed 1,144 registered voters by phone from Feb. 23-26. It has a margin of error of +/-3 percentage points.
Also of interest is the SurveyUSA home page where you can match up a Republican and Democrat candidate and see who would win the election based on their poll results. I noticed a lot of these state poll results were taken in July, so this is really more of an entertainment thing than reality, but it is cool to see that if you match up Giuliani or McCain with Hillary they beat her in a landslide in the Electoral College, carrying states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, and even New Jersey.

There was a lot of interesting stuff in that poll. It showed once again that Gingrich, even without formally running, polls third behind Giuliani and McCain. Even more interestingly, with Gingrich removed, his vote totals went to McCain rather than to Giuliani or Romney.
That survey reinforced the fact that Romney has zero chance of winning. Between his flip-flopping and his background as a whole, he has obstacles that are insurmountable.
All the folks at CPAC need to beg and plead for Newt to run!

Giuliani actively campaigned and endorsed Mario Cuomo, a Democrat, in his re-election bid as Governor of New York in 1994. That was the year George Patiki beat Mr. Cuomo. Rudy is a loyal Republican? He made a habit of backing Democrats he ideologically agreed. Rudy is not a conservative or a liberal; he is for himself.
