Massachusetts Republicans for Truth

Written by Sam on March 12th, 2007

The website, www.MassRepublicansforTruth.com which is still under construction, promises “The Romney Report” will assess Romney’s performance as governor in several key areas. “Perhaps the answers to these important questions are a secret in some parts of the country, but they certainly are NOT to the Republicans in his ‘home’ State of Massachusetts,” the site says.

It is not the first 527 group to make headlines in Massachusetts. The Patriot Majority Fund, fueled by union and Democratic cash, launched attack ads on former Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey during last year’s governor’s race.

Romney has lost the support of several Massachusetts conservatives, including state Rep. Paul Loscocco (R-Holliston) and former Massachusetts GOP chairwoman Jean Inman.

Romney aides have dismissed criticism from the hometown crowd, saying his message is resonating with voters nationwide.

“It’s a matter of trust,” Robichaud said yesterday. “When somebody changes their position on so many different issues - taxes, minimum wage, abortion, gay marriage, gay rights - you’ve got to start to wonder, where are his core beliefs?”

“If you don’t have any core beliefs, you shouldn’t be president of the United States,” she said.

I honestly don’t believe that Romney is going to be able to escape the “flip-flop” stigma and in the long run I think this is going to sink his candidacy.

The establishment, of course, is threatening to pull no punches to prevent that from happening.

March 11, 2007– The Greater Boston Young Republicans today condemned the newly formed web-based “Massachusetts Republicans for Truth” group and called on its founders to stop their negative campaign.

“We condemn the actions of the “Massachusetts Republicans for Truth” organization and call on its’ founders to end their divisive and negative tactics,” said Ashley Maagero, the group’s spokeswoman. “To ensure victory in 2008, it is critical that we maintain civility and foster an environment of constructive, open dialogue throughout our primary season.”

The Greater Boston Young Republicans also called on the campaigns of Sen. John McCain and Mayor Rudy Giuliani to decry the actions of this group immediately and pledge to run a campaign based on the issues.

“It is unfortunate that members of our own party have decided to use a 527 to attack fellow Republicans, instead of bringing out the truth about the real opposition—Hillary and Obama,” said Maagero. “As a party, we need focus on ensuring that our candidates are clearly articulating their positive vision for America rather than drowning in past and personal politics.”

The GBYRs also called on MassGOP Chairman Peter Torkildsen to investigate fully the use of this group’s use of the word “Republican” without a charter. If this group is found to be in violation, they should be ordered to immediately cease and desist. If they refuse, the matter should be referred to the Attorney General for violation of M.G.L. c. 56, sec. 40, as called for in the Bylaws of the Massachusetts Republican State Committee.

“. . . and foster an environment of constructive, open dialogue throughout our primary season.”

Open dialouge! But not really, because that might make Romney look bad. This reminds me of CRs everywhere, using the language of conservative politics to acrue more power for themselves and their masters.

Iraq vets say Pentagon is denying benefits

    10-3-7

    http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=266464

When they came home from Iraq, 2,600 members of the Minnesota National Guard had been deployed longer than any other ground combat unit.

The tour lasted 22 months and had been extended as part of President Bush’s surge.

And 1st Lt. Jon Anderson says he never expected to come home to this: A government refusing to pay education benefits he says he should have earned under the GI bill.

“It’s pretty much a slap in the face,” Anderson said. “I think it was a scheme to save money, personally. I think it was a leadership failure by the senior Washington leadership, once again failing the soldiers.”

Here’s what happened: Anderson’s orders, and the orders of 1,161 other Minnesota guard members, were written for 729 days. Had they been written for 730 days — one day more — the soldiers would receive those benefits to pay for school.

“Which would be allowing the soldiers an extra $500 to $800 a month,” Anderson said.

That money would help him pay for his master’s degree in public administration.

It would help Anderson’s fellow platoon leader, John Hobot, pay for a degree in law enforcement.

“I would assume, and I would hope, that when I get back from a deployment of 22 months, my senior leadership in Washington — (the leadership) that extended us in the first place — would take care of us once we got home,” Hobot said.

Both Hobot and Anderson believe the Pentagon deliberately wrote orders for 729 days instead of 730.

Now six of Minnesota’s members of the House of Representatives have asked the Secretary of the Army to look into it.

So have Senators Amy Klobuchar (D) and Norm Coleman (R).

Klobuchar said the GI money “shouldn’t be tied up in red tape,” and Coleman said it’s “simply irresponsible to deny education benefits to those soldiers who just completed the longest tour of duty of any unit in Iraq.”

Anderson said the soldiers he oversaw in his platoon expected that money to be here when they come home.

“I had 23 guys under my command,” Anderson said. “I promised to take care of them. And I’m not going to end taking care of them when this deployment is over, and it’s not over until this is solved.”

The Army did not respond to KARE11’s questions Tuesday afternoon.

Senators Klobuchar and Coleman released a joint statement saying the Army secretary, Pete Geren, is looking into this personally. And they say Geren asked a review board to expedite its review so the matter could be solved by next semester.

Minnesota National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Kevin Olson said the soldiers are “victims of a significant injustice.”

What in the world are you talking about? First of all, your comment (or post I should say) has nothing to do with the original article thread. Not that I really care, just doesn’t make sense.

Second of all, I don’t see how the Pentagon being stingy = Republicans being evil. The Pentagon is a bunch of military bureaucrats; just because a Republican is in the White House doesn’t mean he’s directing the nuts and bolts of military policy.

Third of all, the article that you were happy to cite notes both of Minnesota’s Senators, a Republican and a Democrat, are involved in figuring this out.

Is this the best you can do? Members of the Democratic Party in Congress have repeatedly voted against funding the troops, and have sponsored legislation requiring premature pullout from Iraq, ceding the country to Iran/al-Qaida… but a bureaucrat in the Pentagon makes a procedural call such as this one and a REPUBLICAN IS DENYING FUNDING TO THE TROOPS according to you.

Sheesh, you’re more than willing to reach for the most ridiculous stories to fulfill your liberal mindset.

I’d love to answer that question for you, but I’m not too sure about that myself.
