EXACTLY How We Should Talk About Immigration

Written by Mark Harris on March 20th, 2007

Fred Thompson has another homerun

I know some of the more hardline folks on the blog may think Thompson is being soft and has in the past been soft on immigration, but I think this way of talking is exactly how we should talk.

1. Mexico, we love you and your people. We want you as an ally and partner
2. We are a sovereign nation and reserve the right to control out borders just like you control your southern border
3. We will clamp down on the border
4. The only real long term solution is an economic boom in Mexico, so lets get rid of this socialist non-sense thats keeping Mexico down

Ok flame away…

That means we are going to have to invade and colonize that place. They will never voluntarily change the way they do things, since the elites who run that country are making billions off of socialism.

The only real long-term solution is to topple the Mexican government and put our own people in charge of that hole. Sorry, but that is just reality folks.

The only real long-term solution is to either invade and colonize Mexico or to topple their government and put our own people in charge.  Mexico is a disaster area and the elites who make billions off of socialism don’t give a damn.

Just like we did in Iraq and Afghanistan, Mike. Third time’s the charm I guess. Clueless.

No, we did not topple the governments of Afghanistan and Iraq only to replace them with our own people enacting free-market, capitalistic economic policy. What exactly is wrong with the war in Afghanistan and Iraq?

Invading and setting up a puppet state is just plain crazy. Stop the flow of hard working illegal immigrants into this country and they will be forced to stay home. That human capital is essential to a Mexican turn around.

If Mexico really had socialism, it would be like Sweden. As it is now, it’s just another banana republic with an oversupply of peasants.

Not a puppet state, a colony. A well managed colony can be far superior to native rule, history has proven that in spades.

Yeah, I was surprised by his comment regarding Socialism as well. I have never thought of Mexico as being a Socialist nation. In fact, my understanding is that the party that has been in power for several years now, with current President Calderon, former President Fox, and so on, is actually the right wing party in Mexico. My impression was that Mexico’s government is heavily corrupted from the top down and that was the cause of their ills.

Mexico most definately is a socialist nation. State monopoly of the oil industry, state granted monopoly of the telecom industry . . . rigid property laws which create a massive stratified system of people with and without property rights. The right-wing party of Mexico serves a different set of elites than the left-wing party and favors the status quo over even more socialism and state control. It is true that Mexico is extremely corrupt and crime ridden, but so are many other countries that have less land, wealth and access to the the US market, yet they have prospered far more than Mexico.

Why can’t Mexico with all of its unemployed poor and proximity to the US compete with China, Vietnam or India when it comes to textiles, steel or even light industry? China suffers from poverty and corruption but even with the cost of transporting goods across the pacific ocean and with tariffs it beats Mexico out. Why? Because Mexico refuses to reform itself along capitalistic lines. China did and is reaping the rewards of doing so.
