First Real Polling - Fred Thompson, a reality?

Written by Mark Harris on March 20th, 2007

PRESIDENT - MICHIGAN - GOP PRIMARY
John McCain 30%
Rudy Giuliani 26%
Mitt Romney 21%
Newt Gingrich 16%
Fred Thompson 2% (volunteered)
Sam Brownback 1%

Ok so this poll came out today and I am surprised no one has written about it yet. The results seem somewhat disappointing at first until you consider that Fred Thompson WASN’T INCLUDED in the poll. Eight people actually listened to all the options and then without being told they could pick any one else listed Fred Thompson. This is astounding. Consider that Thompson beat on Brownback who not only was listed but is an announced candidate.

Obviously he needs to get way more than 2% but my guess is that if he had been actually listed his share would have been somewhere in the 8-10% range.

Very interesting. If he jumps in, he hurts Newt and Mitt the most.

Keep in mind also that Newt hasn’t announced yet officially or otherwise we will see what the polls are in September.
