Sign Kyoto Now Before We Roast

Monday, April 9th, 2007

This has been a hell of a year for the Global Warming Nazis. You can barely turn on the television without inviting them into your living room lately. It seems every time we turn around we see the UN caterwalling and Al Gore telling us we have ten years to live (which he’s been saying for about five years now).

Unfortunately for the Fuhrer, the reality we live in doesn’t coexist with their propaganda.

Charlotte:

The polar air outbreak that began Thursday reached the bottom this morning, when temperatures dropped to 21 degrees at 7 a.m. at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport.

That not only broke the low-temperature record for the date, but it was the coldest for any April day in Charlotte history.

Charlotte Observer

Augusta, GA:

Ear-muffs and mittens, parkas and fleece…the patrons of Augusta National looked dressed for skiing rather than the third round of the Masters on Saturday.

Reuters

Nashville:

In Nashville, Tenn., a forecast low of 22 degrees Sunday would beat the current record set on March 24, 1940, when the morning temperature was 24 degrees.

“We’re going to be in record territory, for sure,” said Jim Moser, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Nashville.

Myway

Minnesota:

Easter Sunday’s high temperature will struggle to make 40 degrees, barely higher than Christmas day. In fact, we haven’t seen April temperatures like this in almost 60 years.

KARE 11 News

There are have been other record setting days across the country over the past few months and let us also not forget the two global warming summits in D.C. that got canceled because of bad weather. Don’t you dare question the Global Warming Nazis, though, lest you face the Spanish Inquisition.

The War on the Easter Bunny

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

A Rhode Island public school has decided the Easter bunny is too Christian and renamed him Peter Rabbit, and a state legislator is so hopping mad he has introduced an “Easter Bunny Act” to save the bunny’s good name.

“Like many Rhode Islanders I’m quite frustrated … by people trying to change traditions that we’ve held in this country for 150 years, like the Easter bunny,” Rhode Island State Rep. Richard Singleton told “Good Morning America Weekend Edition.”

The Easter bunny was scheduled to make an appearance at a craft fair on Saturday at Tiverton Middle School in Tiverton, R.I.

But the district’s schools Superintendent William Rearick told event organizers to change the bunny’s name to Peter Rabbit in “an attempt to be conscious of other people’s backgrounds and traditions.”

ABC News

The obvious stupidity being displayed by Superintendent Rearick is nothing new. We are seeing this kind of politically correct absurdity popping up in school administrations all over the country. It’s no wonder why America’s schools are turning out children that are as equally stupid.

What’s even more silly about this is that the Easter Bunny isn’t even a religious symbol anyway. A 7 year old kid going out on an Easter egg hunt at school is thinking about candy, not Christianity.

I still stand by my opinion, however, on what the problem is with American schools. Don’t blame Rearick for this incident. Blame the parents of the school district who don’t give a damn and allowed it to happen in the first place.

Thompson Stepping Up Speculation

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

Thompson has not yet decided to seek the Republican presidential nomination. But “he is getting more serious every day,” said an adviser familiar with Thompson’s plans.

Thompson’s coming-out as a candidate-in-waiting will be a May 4 appearance at the 45th annual dinner of the Lincoln Club of Orange County in the heart of Ronald Reagan country in Southern California. The invitation was widely sought by aspiring Republicans, and his advisers expect considerable media attention around the visit. But there are no plans now for an announcement then.

Politico

It seems like more of a possibility each day that he is going to jump into the race, but still no certainty. He is definitely taking his time on making the decision. Strategery, perhaps.

Last Time I Checked, Nancy Pelosi Wasn’t the Head of State

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

… but that didn’t prevent her from jaunting over to Syria to play nice with Bashar Assad. Nevermind the fact that the official United States stance towards Syria is one of distrust because the regime is supportive of Hezbollah and other terrorist groups, pulls puppet strings in Lebanon, and is in general a thuggish government which declares Israel to be an enemy. Nancy Pelosi may be Speaker of the House, but she is not the President, is not an Ambassador, is not the Secretary of State, and has no business making foreign trips that fly directly in the face of this Administration’s foreign policy. Her actions are childish and show just how far the Democratic leaders of Congress will take political sniping at this Administration, official U.S. foreign policy be damned.

Even the Washington Post has some harsh words for Pelosi:

Ms. Pelosi was criticized by President Bush for visiting Damascus at a time when the administration — rightly or wrongly — has frozen high-level contacts with Syria. Mr. Bush said that thanks to the speaker’s freelancing Mr. Assad was getting mixed messages from the United States. Ms. Pelosi responded by pointing out that Republican congressmen had visited Syria without drawing presidential censure. That’s true enough — but those other congressmen didn’t try to introduce a new U.S. diplomatic initiative in the Middle East. “We came in friendship, hope, and determined that the road to Damascus is a road to peace,” Ms. Pelosi grandly declared.

Never mind that that statement is ludicrous: As any diplomat with knowledge of the region could have told Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Assad is a corrupt thug whose overriding priority at the moment is not peace with Israel but heading off U.N. charges that he orchestrated the murder of former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri. The really striking development here is the attempt by a Democratic congressional leader to substitute her own foreign policy for that of a sitting Republican president. Two weeks ago Ms. Pelosi rammed legislation through the House of Representatives that would strip Mr. Bush of his authority as commander in chief to manage troop movements in Iraq. Now she is attempting to introduce a new Middle East policy that directly conflicts with that of the president. We have found much to criticize in Mr. Bush’s military strategy and regional diplomacy. But Ms. Pelosi’s attempt to establish a shadow presidency is not only counterproductive, it is foolish.

Emphasis mine. The Democratic leaders need to grow up and quit treating the operation of this government as a game of “gotcha!” The latest actions of the majority leaders of Congress are shameful, disrespectful, and show a complete disregard for the role of the Executive Branch of the government.

If you read the entire Washington Post article linked above (it’s really short), you’ll also notice that not only is Pelosi acting like a bratty 5 year-old who just has to poke her older sibling in the eye, she’s doing it stupidly. After communicating that Israeli Prime Minister Olmert had indicated to her, “‘Israel was ready to engage in peace talks’ with Syria,” Olmert responded with this:

“What was communicated to the U.S. House Speaker does not contain any change in the policies of Israel,” said a statement quickly issued by the prime minister’s office. In fact, Mr. Olmert told Ms. Pelosi that “a number of Senate and House members who recently visited Damascus received the impression that despite the declarations of Bashar Assad, there is no change in the position of his country regarding a possible peace process with Israel.” In other words, Ms. Pelosi not only misrepresented Israel’s position but was virtually alone in failing to discern that Mr. Assad’s words were mere propaganda.

Way to go Nancy, you make us proud.

UPDATE: Gateway Pundit has more about Pelosi being “lambasted” by Israel.

Democrats Denying War on Terror

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

It’s bad enough that you have radical leftists out there who deny the Holocaust. Now we have left wing Congressmen denying today’s Global War on Terror.

The House Armed Services Committee is banishing the global war on terror from the 2008 defense budget.

This is not because the war has been won, lost or even called off, but because the committee’s Democratic leadership doesn’t like the phrase.

A memo for the committee staff, circulated March 27, says the 2008 bill and its accompanying explanatory report that will set defense policy should be specific about military operations and “avoid using colloquialisms.”

The “global war on terror,” a phrase first used by President Bush shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the U.S., should not be used, according to the memo. Also banned is the phrase the “long war,” which military officials began using last year as a way of acknowledging that military operations against terrorist states and organizations would not be wrapped up in a few years.

Committee staff members are told in the memo to use specific references to specific operations instead of the Bush administration’s catch phrases. The memo, written by Staff Director Erin Conaton, provides examples of acceptable phrases, such as “the war in Iraq,” the “war in Afghanistan, “operations in the Horn of Africa” or “ongoing military operations throughout the world.”

Army Times

It just astonishes me the way liberals will construct their own little fantasy world to live in. I guess if we don’t say there is a War on Terror we will all just forget about the threat of Islamic Fascism and it will go away by itself. I can’t imagine what else their motivation would be. I liked Neal Boortz’s response to this, though:

You listeners will note that I, too, have a problem with the “war on terror” phrase. Terror is a tactic. You don’t declare war on a tactic. You declare war on the people who threaten you. That would be Muslim radicals. The proper phrase should be the “War on Islamic Fascism,” but you just know that no good peace-at-any-price Democrat would ever go along with that. Besides, it’s offensive to Muslim terrorists.

The Nation of Churchill?

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

The British are embarrassing me as of late.  Not only does it seem that their sailors and marines made no attempt to fight or escape the Iranians, but the British Government has been acting in the mold of Chamberlin in response to the crisis.  I have not heard even a mention of the use of force as an option from the Government.  England’s dereliction of duty and complete disregard for their own defenses, while kowtowing to political correctness is a slap in the face to all the men and women who sacrificed everything for their country.  While they go back and forth on whether or not their fellow countrymen held captive should be referred to as “hostages,” or some other politically correct term, the Iranians are laughing all the way to the bank.  The Iranians are scoring major points in their region by showing they can thumb their nose and push the Brits around without consequence if they want.  This is not going unnoticed by the moderate Muslim states, which have in the past aligned with the US and the Brits.  No one wants to friends with losers, which is what the Brits look like right now.  Reagan or Churchill in the same situation would have the nation’s entire fleet steaming at full speed for the Persian Gulf.

Things are not any better on the domestic side either, Rush mentioned today that British schools are no longer going to teach about the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslim children who are being taught differently in their mosques.  What the Hell are they thinking?  Churchill would be rolling over in his grave.  How can they so easily forget their own history?  I am completely dumfounded……

New Rasmussen Poll

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

4/3/2007

Giuliani - 26% (-9%)
McCain - 16% (+1%)
F. Thompson - 14% (n/a)
Gingrich - 11% (unch)
Mitt Romney - 8% (unch)
Huckabee - 3%
No one else breaks 1%

Cross tab - Self-identified “Very Conservative” Voters

Giuliani - 20%
F. Thompson - 19%
Gingrich - 18%
McCain - 14%

Interesting tidbits…

  • Thompson jumps into third place ahead of Romney and Gingrich which mirrors the Gallup results
  • Thompson’s support in this poll come almost entirely out of Giuliani’s base
  • Romney and Gingrich who other polls showed loss of support with Thompson in the race shows no changes
  • Giuliani’s 20% draw among very conservative voters is indicative of his “soft” support which could evaporate if Thompson, Gingrich, or McCain could ever peel off those voters

My Baby Boy

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

After a scheduled C-section yesterday afternoon, I am a father. Carson Paul weighs 11lbs 7oz. and is 22 1/4 inches long. Hence the reason for the C-section. Mother and baby are doing great and I am one proud father.

Tancredo Officially Declares Candidacy

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Colorado Republican Congressman Tom Tancredo declared his candidacy for the 2008 presidential election this morning on a radio talk show in Des Moines, Iowa.

Tancredo’s candidacy will be focused almost entirely on immigration issues, which he hopes to bring to the forefront among the leading Republican candidates of Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney and Sen. John McCain.

The Denver Post

The second paragraph is what is really important here.  Tom Tancredo really doesn’t have a chance at getting the nomination for the Republican Party, but I think he is there to influence the debate and force in depth discussion on the illegal immigration problem.

McCain $12.5m Raised… Sinking Ship

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

The McCain campaign is a sinking ship. With $12.5m raised in the first quarter, the McCain campaign raised a real red flag of a sinking ship. Wow.

Novak: Thompson Is For Real

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Bob Novak adds more fire to the flames of a possible Fred Thompson candidacy for President, reaffirming reports that Thompson’s possible run is by no means just a publicity stunt:

In just three weeks, Fred Thompson has improbably transformed the contest for the Republican presidential nomination. It is not merely that he has come from nowhere to double digits in national polls. He is the talk of GOP political circles, because he is filling the conservative void in the Republican field.

Republican activists have complained for months that none of the big-three contenders — Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Mitt Romney — fits the model of a conservative leader for a conservative party. The party faithful have been waiting for another Ronald Reagan. But in the past year, nobody mentioned Thompson as the messiah until he appeared March 11 on ”Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.”

His statement to Wallace that he was ”giving some thought” to a presidential run generated a reaction that surprised Thompson. In the first Gallup Poll that listed Thompson (March 23-25), he scored 12 percent — amazing for someone out of public life for more than four years. More important than the polling data is his backing within the political community. Buyer’s remorse is expressed by several House members who had endorsed former Massachusetts Gov. Romney.

Novak asserts that the speculation is more than just hype:

Friends bet Thompson will run. He clearly wants to try, and his wife, Jeri, is all for it. Seeking the best timing, he wants to avoid the pitfalls encountered by Democrat Barack Obama, who may have damaged himself by starting his campaign too quickly.

Run, Fred, run. H/T to Drudge Report.

Secession A Growing Movement in Vermont

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

The winds of secession are blowing in the Green Mountain State.

Vermont was once an independent republic, and it can be one again. We think the time to make that happen is now. Over the past 50 years, the U.S. government has grown too big, too corrupt and too aggressive toward the world, toward its own citizens and toward local democratic institutions. It has abandoned the democratic vision of its founders and eroded Americans’ fundamental freedoms.

Vermont did not join the Union to become part of an empire.

Some of us therefore seek permission to leave.

Washington Post

Granted, Vermont has pretty much become a bastion of Socialist Marxism, having elected a Socialist to the United State Senate and seven members of the newly formed Progressive Party to their state legislature. Aside from that, the author actually does make a striking case for secession in his article and I get the opinion from his writing that he is not a far left guy, but a libertarian in nature.

It’s quite simple. The United States has destroyed the 10th Amendment, which says that “powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

The present movement for secession has been gathering steam for a decade and a half. In preparation for Vermont’s bicentennial in 1991, public debates — moderated by then-Lt. Gov. Howard Dean — were held in seven towns before crowds that averaged 230 citizens. At the end of each, Dean asked all those in favor of Vermont’s seceding from the Union to stand and be counted. In town after town, solid majorities stood. The final count: 999 (62 percent) for secession and 608 opposed.

While I think secession in the near future for Vermonters is unlikely, the long term possibility is not. Vermont is not the first state in recent times to have a serious discussion about breaking away from the union and as the country overall gets more polarized politically, that movement seems to be growing. I have felt for some years now that by the time I am an old man (I am 30 years old now) that the United States will likely have a different makeup than today. I think secession of at least one state or region in our country is inevitable by the mid century.

It certainly may not be in the best interest of the United States as a whole to lose one or more states, but I fully support the right of a state to secede if that is what the residents so desire. The author rightfully points out that most states, particularly the original 13, entered into an agreement of a union under much different circumstances than what we have today. They joined into a contract, per say, in which the Federal government was virtually nonexistent and the states retained much of their sovereignty. Today the states have almost no independence left and are frequently held hostage to the demands of Washington D.C. The 10th Amendment may as well be scratched out of the Constitution altogether as even the Supreme Court does not have the will to uphold it.

Nonetheless, this will be interesting to follow and see if anything actually comes of this.

What Is the Common Denominator?

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

CNN Money released it’s annual “The Most Dangerous American States” for 2006.  It gives the reasons why Nevada is number one for the fourth year in a row:

“The story for Nevada remains the same as in previous years,” Scott Morgan, president of Morgan Quitno Press, remarked in the report. “As a rapidly growing state, it struggles with crime and other problems. It has some of the highest murder, robbery and motor vehicle theft rates in the country.”

The study doesn’t really suggest, however, what the cause is?  Something stuck me as I took a look at the list.  Take the first twelve states.  Do you see it?  What do most of them have in common?

This is just my own speculation, of course, yet interesting nonetheless.
