A Tale of Two Wars

Written by Mike on May 15th, 2007

Here is a graph showing the per month Vietnam War deaths superimposed on a graph of the to date Iraq war deaths. The contrast is stunning and speaks volumes, not about our success or failure in either war but rather our complete collapse as a society in both cases. We are truly a weak people who seem unable to emotionally and mentally endure any sustained conflict. Let us hope we don’t have to fight a real war anytime soon or we would surely lose.

Yes and No. In 1973 when we quit (I was in Ranger School expecting to go to Vietnam in 5 months as an advisor) or in 1975 when the Communists won, there was still almost 40% of the US who wanted to go clean their clock.

That 40% is the Right in our Great US Culture War. It’s the other 4o% on the Left that has gotten so weak worshipping the small god of Self that they are the accomplices of Islamists who will kill us all.

From day one of the OIF, the Bush Administration under SecDef Rumsfeld has screwed up. Dave Petraus, and John Abizaid before him, are doing the best with the hand dealt them.

Bush failed to define ‘victory’ in 03 and continues to do so today. Victory, in my opinion, is security and stability in the fake nation-state called Iraq. Period.

I think the American people can still pull it together, and it is true that we have a solid 40% of this country that “gets it”. I can tell you though the % that “get it” in China is much, much higher.

Remember Saddam Hussein received 100% of the votes in the fake election he held in 2002. Just a year later these same voters were toppling his statues and stomping on his head.

We really don’t know the sentiments of the Chinese people because the Chinese government clamps down on dissent so heavily. The masses have been controlled since Tiananmen Square in 1989 by force and tempered by the opening of free markets in China. The Chines Juggernaut is a force to be reckoned with. In many ways they have already passed us.

I have met many, many Chinese people, they are as militant and nationalistic as they appear to be, it is not an act. If anything the Communist Party keeps the people in check, if China were a democracy they would be at war with Taiwan tomorrow.
