Who Do You Feel Won?
Written by Sam on June 5th, 2007I think Huckabee was the shining star in tonight’s debate. He gave great answers for every question he was asked and didn’t sound like he was just regurgitating the party line or throwing out sound bites.
Who do you think “won” tonight’s debate? This isn’t necessarily the person you are supporting or the one you agreed with the most, but who do you think made the best case for their views?

Huckabee and Guliani looked the most Presidential…McCain was absolutely horrible…he’s dead.
Romney way under-performed.
Paul was reliably crazy.
Tancredo, Tommy Thompson, Gilmore, Brownback and Hunter looked like they tried too hard.

Roger Simon says Romney won.
And since I’m a Romney guy, I’m going to play up Roger Simon’s analysis as much as I can

Seriously though, I’m happy with his smackdown on ‘da pundits.’ I’m still glad McCain is on the stage, he is helping us, and I want him to stay on that stage right through the very end.

I will agree that Huckabee was strong. Tonight was the best I have ever seen him. I think McCain was also strong, though everyone knows I am in his court already.
If there ever was a sign that Rudy needs to rethink his views on abortion…the lightning was it. I agree with Brownback, that we better not nominate a pro-choice Presidential candidate.
Tonight, I give the nod to Huckabee.

I’m not sure anyone can win a debate where you get 30-60 seconds to answer a question that takes almost as long to ask.
We would all win if these events got pared down to Giuliani, McCain, Romney, Huckabee, (maybe Hunter) and Fred Thompson. Even then, six candidates is a lot.
I think there’s a 0% chance someone besides those six guys wins the nomination. And a 10% chance someone besides Rudy, Mitt, or Fred walks away with it (yes, I don’t think there’s more than a 10% probability that McCain resurrects his campaign).
In any case, after tonights debate I thought, “Well, the GOP isn’t doing that bad. About half these guys could be a good president.”

Reps. Tancredo and Hunter had the best lines of the night, in particular Hunter’s remark about the need to move away from the “Kennedy wing of the Republican party,” and Tancredo’s comment that he would, as President, order ex-President Bush to “never to blacken the White House again” with his presence.

John F. Kennedy cut taxes and fought communism.
He was my kinda guy.
